Beloved (US) released this absolutely flawless cover of U2’s classic song, “Like a Song”, last month. It is without a doubt, one of my favorite cover songs by an artist we write about and quite simply one of the best songs of 2020. To be honest, I wasn’t as familiar with this U2 song as much as their other more famous tracks but nonetheless the band put their own unique spin on it and blew it out of the water. It’s not only lyrically poignant but the sound quality of this one song is on par with anything a major label artist would release in 2020. I have what I consider a “great sound system” set up in my vehicle. Whenever I play this song, it resonates through the speakers like a heat seeking missle direct to my heart, piercing my ear drums on the way down. The production on the drums and bass are what first draw me in. The extra percussion is an added bonus and by the time you get to the build up with Joe’s screaming vocals, it completely surrounds you in a wall of sound, captivating every ounce of breathing flesh, down into that muscle attached to bone. I’m not just hyping this song because I have some weird attachment to a one album fluke hit of a band from the early 00’s, I am judging them on this one track alone as a reintroduction into our music scene and if this song is any indication of what could possibly come down the line, then we are in for one heck of a surprise. Put your biases down and preconceived notions of that early 00’s Emo/Screamo/Post-Hardcore “sound” and just give this song a solid listen start to finish in the stillness of a dark room with headphones on. I guarantee that “Like a Song” by Beloved (US) courtesy of U2, will blow your socks off and make you rediscover this band and their short discography. Listen below if you haven’t heard the song yet.

Have you heard the Believer (thrash) cover of this song? It’s amazing!
No I haven’t but I keep hearing people refer to it. I would consider Beloved and Believer in two totally different leagues though.
I can confirm, this song is brilliant.
