REVIEW : Olivia the Band "Where We Come From It Never Snows"

Artist: Olivia the Band Album: Where Come From It Never Snows Label: Up At Nite/Syntax Records Crap, am I impressed or what? I know that’s a real zinger of a line to throw out in the first sentence but wow, oh wow, is this good! Every song is a radio single and eager for your listen. Every beat is addictive and every strum of the guitar is like heaven. This album transcends all genres and rises above the melodic punk rock background they rise from. This album beats back all preconceived notions you may have and tosses them out the window.… Continued →

REVIEW : Mxpx "Secret Weapon"

Band: Mxpx Album: “Secret Weapon” Label: Tooth & Nail Records Release Date: 7-17-07 Reviewing any Mxpx record is always a difficult task for me. You see they’ve become an American staple, a band of longetivity and band I’ve been listening to since High School. Each album that releases and passes is a favorite of mine (well minus Before and Everything After which was a critical letdown) and an album that withstands the abuse my cd player inflicts upon it. This new one, “Secret Weapon” is no exception.… Continued →

INTERVIEW : Jeff Jacquay/Unashamed

An Interview with Jeff Jacquay of Unashamed A classic trip in time through the years of Spirit Filled Hardcore and beyond… I first caught glimpse of Unashamed in 95’ at a show with Focused in Capo Beach, CA. and was blown away by the intensity of the band. Their brand of “Spirit Filled Hardcore” blew everyone in the room away with passion of heart and explosive guitars enough to jolt the building to the floor (exaggerated). I had never seen a hardcore show quite like that one.… Continued →

This band has a penchant for writing finely tuned and memorable melodic rock.… Continued →

REVIEW : Thrush "Aeon"

Band: Thrush Album: Aeon Label: None Review by: Brandon Jones Myspace In days long ago, I knew of a little band called “Craig’s Brother” of which they released the hard hitting and socially aware full length “Homecoming” on Tooth and Nail Records back in 98. Well two members of that band, Adam Nigh and Andy Snyder quit not long after the release of the afformentioned album deciding to go their own course in musical mission. So what did they do? Well they founded a fantastic three piece band called “Too Bad Eugene”.… Continued →

INTERVIEW : Bernard

Interview with the band BERNARD Interview by: Joel Official buzz-band and one of the most pleasant surprises for me personally was the band Bernard. With cinematic grace and epic musical soundscapes they captivated their audience in the packed-out tent, shining like a light amidst thousands of bumper-car-core shows, the three-piece ambient-rock band Bernard blew me away. I instantly stole to the back waiting to meet up with one of the members for an interview. As soon as the main questions were done I turned off my recorder and spent another half hour just talking about our views on religion and the church, one of my most memorable conversations at Cornerstone 2006, here’s what I got for you guys: First, a word from an audience member.… Continued →

INTERVIEW : Lincoln's Revenge

One of the highlights of Cornerstone 2006 was getting to see a whole gang of my old hometown friends, specifically the boys(and girl) in Lincoln’s Revenge, a new prog influenced orchestrated rock band, hailing from my old hometown of Guelph, Ontario(that is Canada folks). So I managed to catch up with them when they weren’t playing their own generator stage or showcasing on the Impromptu stage for a mob of crazed fans overjoyed to see some brass in the midst of the traditional metal mayhem. Joel IVM: State who you are and what you do.… Continued →

INTERVIEW : Why They Came

So half way into Cornerstone Music Festival 2006 I was completely exhausted, sick of screaming music, and ready to pass out from sun exposure. I was spending some bonding time with some random people I had met just outside of one of the two Encore stages when Why They Came started their set. I wasn’t paying complete attention but I kept asking around trying to figure out who these people were, and mostly why their crowd consisted of 5-10 people. Their sound reminded me of Pedro the Lion with that clean guitar smooth vocals and great rhythm.… Continued →

REVIEW : Underoath "Define The Great Line" (Special Edition CD/DVD)

Artist: Underoath Album: Define the Great Line (Special Edition with DVD) Label: Solid State Records/ Tooth & Nail When I say the word Underoath, many things may come to mind. “Metal.” “Emo.” “Screamo sellouts.” “Popcore.” “Dallas was better, this new stuff is MTV garbage.” “The old stuff is terrible, but I liked They’re Only Chasing Safety.” Regardless which of these thoughts best describe how you feel about Underoath, one thing is certain: you know exactly who they are. Or do you? Underoath has never been a band to sound the same from album to album, and with the new release of Define the Great Line, they have again pushed themselves and hopefully their listeners to try something new.… Continued →

REVIEW : Watson Park "Self Titled"

Album: WatsonPark Artist: WatsonPark Label: Unsigned I have to say it: I have a soft spot for some good folk-pop. I really do. I’m a pretty massive fan of the “nu-folk” movement which was revived in the late 90s and has carried over to today. Whiskeytown, early Wilco, Norah Jones, Damien Rice…I’m a sucker for all of them. The “singer/songwriter” set. Good stuff. It’s a little hard to peg down sometimes. It’s not pop enough to be called “pop”, but there’s nothing really too “folk” (and especially nothing “country”) about it.… Continued →

REVIEW : Forever Changed "Chapters"

Artist: Forever Changed Album: Chapters Label: Floodgate Records “Forever Changed is breaking up.” This announcement a few months ago left some stunned. A young, eager, and talented alternative rock band just starting to make a name for themselves decided to call it quits because their singer decided to leave in order to focus on his family more. This is not an uncommon story in the music scene (which is a good thing to see musicians being responsible about their family lives). Forever Changed decided to release one last CD before leaving this band behind, and this is how Chapters eventually landed into my hands.… Continued →
