A couple independent filmmakers have moved forward with their plan to document the 2nd big revival that took place 1980-1995 which featured a collection of Christian Artists on a mission to reach the lost and seeking youth who were very much looking for answers and in need of a savior. Shawn Browning of Grave Robber fame has embarked on a solo effort of sorts but in an entirely different direction from the horror punk stuff. It’s a really great sound and draws upon a vast landscape of late 80’s-90’s era alternative rock while keeping it modern and aggressive at points. You can’t help but be feel drawn into Shawn’s songs especially “Let Go, Hold On”. Michigan based Ska-Core legends known around the world as The Insyderz, are back in 2023! The band last released “The Sinner’s Songbook” back in 2012. I’m going to try and post some news we’ve missed reporting on the past few weeks/months. First up, the band Haste The Day have announced their reunion and are already scheduling some comeback shows. They will be playing Furnace Fest this year and also have 4 shows scheduled in Indianapolis, IN. at the Hi-Fi in October but unfortunately for some of you, this has already sold out. This song “A New Hope” by underdog heroes – Five Iron Frenzy, was released after the tragic Columbine shootings that took place in Colorado back in 1999. It is just as touching and relevant today as it was almost 25 years ago. I will not spend any time on getting political here. Theocracy came out and announced that they are releasing a new album this year and it’ll be on a new label home for the first time after releasing 4 incredible albums through Ulterium Records. Red Weather just relased their brand new track titled “Start Again” and it’s quite simply the best thing to emerge from the independent emo/indie rock scene in 2023. THey have this certain classic 00’s emo sound but it rises far above the mundane with unique, soaring choruses and catchy songwriting. Reminds me a little of Midtown, Name Taken, Bayside, Armor for Sleep, The Classic Crime, Letter Kills, and Taking Back Sunday. If there was ever a band to perfectly represent the depths to where “Christian Music” can go in regards to talent, songwriting, and even with longevity, that band would be The Choir. The band themselves have been together in one form or another for nearly 4 decades now, and making creatively connecting music for almost the same amount of time.
