Freeto Boat was an awesome punk rock band mixed with ska. Like my previous SOTD for Sick of Change, this one is also a love song.
Today I’ll let the sun set,
There’s no anger in my heart.
Tonight just let the moon rise,
Our time won’t be spent apart.
Starlight and confessions
Of what you mean to me,
These twilight conversations
they’re helping me to see…
What you are in God’s eyes,
what you are in mine
not a hair too shy of perfect
and always just in time.… Continued →

Song of the Day: Harp & Lyre - Grizzly Adams Did Have a Beard
Harp & Lyre remind me of an emo metalcore band from Oklahoma. I have always liked this song for the keys & the song name. There is a decent IVM interview from the band here: https://www.indievisionmusic.com/interviews/harp-lyre-2/

Song of the Day: Ghoti Hook - Ooklah The Punk
Ghoti Hook was a fun Virginian punk band that came out the same time Value Pac did from what I remember. My friend from high school & I had certain faves. I liked The Insyderz & he liked the O.C. Supertones while I liked Ghoti Hook & he liked Value Pac. I always liked this song of the day & thought of it as a good one for this primarily punk website.

Song of the day: 3rd Root - Zion
3rd Root is a band that reminds me of a cross between the Deftones, Helmet & old school P.O.D. They were short lived, but their full length A Sign of Things To Come is a mainstay in my metal collection.

Song of the Day: Broken Yoke - Ends With You
Broken Yoke formed as a rap rock hybrid from Ohio & have released 4 albums. Besides this one check out Beautiful, another fave of mine from the band. Also check out these thought provoking lyrics.
Anytime, anywhere
There’s a place that I can go
Where I can know
Your truthful love’s Revealed
It’s only in this place that I feel
Your presence move inside of me
My eyes desire to see beyond the door
My soul slowly crying out
To know you more
My flesh growing weaker with time but I
Regain my strength in you
I spent time on the other side
Crossing the line
Swallowed by pride, and wondering why
All my tendencies
Are giving up so easily
And so I surrendered my life to you
I can’t go where others go
And i can’t know
What some other knows
My life will show
That I’ve been change by the person
Who willingly
Gave up his life for me
Dying just to set me free
Fearless eyes
Timeless times
I see forever fall from you
Patient hands
Pull me in
It begins and ends with you
I’ll never know again
What it might be like
To go again
One second
Without a touch from you
I found the way
I’m gonna stay
Forever I need to say
More that I’ve ever known
You help me
Realize who I am
You help me
See the man living within
You help me
Shine the light so I
Find my way back to you

Song of the Day: Sick of Change - A Rose Among Thorns
Sick of Change is a fun punk band from Riverside, Ca where Impending Doom is also from! Well, today’s SOTD is none other than a love song for al y’all punk rawkers! Check out the lyrics!
Lord Only Knows How I Felt That Day
Your Beauty Became Known To Me
No Actions Could Ever Show The Joy That You Bring
I Promise To Love You Just As He Has Loved Me
You’re All I Ever Wanted, Such A Blessing
I’ve Never Seen Compassion Come From Such A Beautiful Face
His Will Is So Perfect When We Walk In His Way
I Promise To Love You Just As He Has Loved Me
You’re All I Ever Wanted, Such A Blessing
I Promise To Love You Just As He Has Loved Me
You’re All I Ever Wanted, Such A Blessing To Me

Song of the Day: E.so - To Confront

Song of the Day: Sides of the North - Black & Blue
Sides of the North is band that has been around since the Myspace days. I first heard Would I Lie & thought the band was cool. They eventually; released a full length on Word of Mouth Records that is also listed on IVM’s bandcamp page. It also appears one of the band members is also in a newer band Be Not Afraid. Anyways, sorry about the bad recording. I have tried looking for this song for years so it lost audio quality from over the years before I transferred it to an mp3.… Continued →

Song of the Day: Aggressive Change - Broken
Aggressive Change is another rarity that I came across in my unending search for Christian rock/metal. Finally shelled out the bucks to buy a copy from Amazon & seems to be a hardcore/metalcore band in the early stages of hardcore. The CD released on Ole Crow Records which also put out an early hxc cd I used to have: Lantern from XDisciplexAD. The Lyrics seem to be out submitting to YHWH. Anyways, hope you like it!

Song of the Day: GFM - Smile
Gold Frankincense & Myrrh (stylized as GFM) is a metal band comprised of 3 sisters. With so much talent for being so young, this band has a great future & have put out so much music in so little time. This review is also in reference to my friend Blake who runs Reanimated Radio who likes this band as much as I do! This SOTD was hard to choose from my other fave Graveyard of Identities, but is because of its lyrical content.
S-M-I-L-E why don’t you smile for me
S-M-I-L-E now follow me
Go
What makes you think
You know what’s going on in my mind
What gives you the right
To think you can call this my bad side
How can you care if you don’t know the truth
Do you think everyone should be like you
Don’t make me wrong, don’t make me right
If I don’t wanna, I don’t wanna smile
Doesn’t mean that I’m not happy
Doesn’t mean that I’m half dead
Doesn’t mean that I’ve got issues swimming in my head
You don’t know the way I’m feeling or the way I live my life
Don’t tell me to, don’t tell me to smile
The look on my face
I’ve become your latest obsession
It’s safe to say
I think you’ve got the wrong impression
Okay, okay everyone settle down
Boys and girls are you ready
LuLu are you ready
I know I’m ready
Maggie are you ready, Maggie
Yeah

Song of the Day: Galactic Cowboys - The Struggle
Galactic Cowboys, along with King’s X & Atomic Opera, are bands that should have gone mainstream, but were unable to do so more than they did. GC is one of the best 90s bands imho & have so many great ones. Chose this one as has some great lyrics that mean a lot to me & I can also play the bass line & drums to it. Few of the members are Facebook friends & I see several people bring up this band in groups that I am in.… Continued →

Song of the Day: Luti-Kriss - Patiently Philadelphia
Luti-Kriss is the first incarnation of Norma Jean, a metalcore band that I think I have seen more than any other artist live. This band is what first got me into Christian heavy music for their open profession of Jesus. The vocalist (Josh Scoggins) at the time eventually went on to start The Chariot, which was another great band to see live, & ’68. They were on tour with Living Sacrifice & Dead Poetic if my memory serves me correctly at the time & Josh was hanging from the rafters from the venue.… Continued →

Song of the Day: The Agony Scene - We Bury Our Dead At Dawn
The Agony Scene is friggin’ heavy. I remember it seemd this band & AILD came out at roughly the same time. I loved this debut & not As IU Lay Dying better as the song quality was tons better. Plus I was into the goth & metal scene & fishnets & eyeliner & Hot Topic & all that. Crowd surfed at Norma Jean shows & hung out with Zao & Stretch Armstrong at New Brookland Tavern in Columbia, SC. Well this song is a killer tune, but also check out the debut as there isn’t a dud on it.… Continued →

Song of the Day: Grand Prize - It's Not Over
Grand Prize hailed from the Calvary Chapel location in Idaho. They eventually changed their name to Esterlyn & do a more AC/worshipful vibe. This SOTD has a special meaning to me & is a lot of what I personally struggle with. : You say that you love Him with your life But your going your own way You need to let Him have your rights Let Him take control of your life.”
So come on over feel His Grace shining bright
It’s not over you still need to fight
You say that it can’t be done
You just can’t live what’s right
Well that’s not right
He will heal you tonight
You say that you love Him with your life
But your going your own way
You need to let Him have your rights
Let Him take control of your life
He’ll set you free, Tonight, yea yea tonight
Some come on over let His love draw you near
It’s not over He wipe away every tear
You say that it can’t be done
You just can’t live what’s right
Well that’s not right
He will heal you tonight
Oh how He loves You- How He longs to forgive You
Won’t you let Him take your hand
Won’t you let Him show you His Plan
He will change you, He will change you, He will change you

Song of the Day: Fono - Collide
Fono was an awesome band that had a really outstanding debut, but seemed to fail into obscurity shortly thereafter a follow-up. They originally came from the United Kingdom under the name Seven, but moved to California for their American tenure. Their vocalist actually played in other bands I have releases from called Split Level & Tribe of Dan. They actually opened for Bon Jovi before changing their name to Fono. Goesaroundcomesaround is a great release and there are no duds on it.

Blo0odlined Calligraphy was a hardcore/metalcore band hailing from Michigan that featured a female vocalist> They went from Selah to Strike First to Facedown Records in a matter of 3 years. Vocalist Ally also plays piano, but this SOTD is straight up heavy. I remember Jaddeus from RadioU’s hxc show playing this son on his show & I have dug it all these years. Also check out Isaac is the Champ.

The W’s were a short lived swing revival/ska band whose 2 full lengths garnered a lot of airplay on Christian rock stations back in the day. They are well known for their first hit The Devil is Bad but also check out the superb Moses. I did not know, but 2 members of the band formed a band BenDixon that I have been starting to follow lately. Today’s SOTD though is in homage to one of my fave songs to play on bass guitar.

Ronnie Winter-Defoe is the vocalist for The Red Jumpsuit Apparatus which became well known on mainstream radio for their song Face Down. A few years ago, their music found its way onto “Christian” radio shows. This beautiful SOTD was re-recorded for TRJA, but I have always liked this version better & love its lyrical content..

Song of the Day: Dead Awake Dreaming: What Happens Behind Closed Doors
Dead Awake Dreaming was a metalcore band that hailed from California. Their Facebook has not been updated since 2016, but their mission was to love the unloved & I feel we all understand that. Jesus does hear our cries & will be there for us no matter what even when we don’t understand ourselves.
Another day with no one to hold you or feel your pain It’s tough when no one is around to say, “Everything is okay” Don’t stop, push on You wanna lie when someone asks if you have been alright Trying to paint a portrait of something that you are not at all What Happens Behind Closed Doors Where have you gone to so far away?… Continued →

Song of the Day: Mat Kearney - Billion
Mat Kearney is who I’ve been listening to most the past few years. hailing from Oregon. He has so many songs that I relate to. This love song is dedicated to my girlfriend Mindy whom I had been waiting for my entire life. Also check out One Black Sheep, Heartbeat & Moving On, etc…!
When you stopped me in my tracks
The very first time
Had me going
The very first night
Waved goodbye, your keys locked inside
I knew you were the only one
With your crazy voice mail, seen your spotted toes
Way funnier than anyone knows
With your daddy’s eyes and your grandma’s gun
You’re the only one
That little crook in your teeth and your 5 inch feet
When you tie your hair up in the bun
Whatever the weather, we’ll stick together forever
‘Cause you’re the only one
Seven billion in the world baby
I only wanna be with you
I don’t want another girl baby
I only wanna be with you
Waiting for you all my life
I can’t wait another night
Seven billion in the world
And you’re the only I want, it’s true
Yeah, yeah yeah, yeah yeah yeah yeah
I only wanna be with
Only wanna be with
Yeah, yeah yeah, yeah yeah yeah yeah
Only wanna be with you
You put too much salt on everything you eat
Wake up freezing ’cause I stole the sheets
And you talk to the wall, pop your gum in your sleep
You’re the only one
And you worry about your dad on his motorbike
The way your voice cracks when you wanna fight
And you never wanna sleep so I talk all night
To the only one
Turn out the lights and hold me tonight
We don’t need the sun
Whatever the weather, we’ll stick together forever
‘Cause you’re the only one

Ruby Joe was an awesome rocka/pscychobill band from California. They changed things up on their 2nd album which dabbled in swing. The original band that 2 members were in was named Strugglefish which is in reference I’m pretty sure to one of my all time faves 1st LP DigHayZoose which was actually my first review for one of their songs.
