Altar Boys are a long running (formed in 1982) (punk) band whose very existence is a huge force in how our Christian punk subgenre has come to be. Mike Stand & company have done a wide variety of genres including modern rock (see my Clash of Symbols review) & rockabilly. There is a plethora of AB’s songs that I could have done for this SOTD, but 1000 Miles is about how Jesus loves us & is patiently waiting for us to turn to Him no matter how far we feel or seem to have gotten from Him.… Continued →

Big Methuselah is the Texan Christian rock band from North Carolinian Ted Pearce who has done a few different genres including world & trance going under such monikers as Phatdawg & also hung out with Joel Chernoff of the epic Messianic Jewish group Lamb. Nuff said lol! Anyways, this song is about the fight we have with ourselves & our sin nature. The video is hilarious imo but it is grainy & feels like it was amateurly made. Kenny Marks is an epic singer/songwriter IMHO & I have owned several of his heartfelt discography over the years. He first came to my recognition with his song The Party’s Over back when my generation had cassette tapes. Then he came out with the phenomenal LP Another Friday Night. Every single last song on it was mind blowing & I was hooked. I stumbled upon this really unique and different sounding “worship” oriented music, hymnal focused group out of Scotland called, “Celtic Worship“. Don’t let the cliché Scottish name fool you, this is uplifting, inspiring, and played with a strong sense of passion, driven by quality musicianship. The vocals are soaring and the instrumentation is out of this world. I received a press release a few weeks back and like with many I just wrote it off as more of the same. With Shaking Hands is a Texan electronicore band sounding akin to Aviadora, Aliens Ate My Setlist or mainstream bands Attack Attack or Sky Eats Airplane. The genre incorporates electronics to make metalcore songs sounds poppy lol! Wage War is a newer band in my collection. Disclaimer-They seem to be a quasi-Christian band as has had not too much recognition in the Christian market, but I have seen their videos that hint at the subject. Other bands that fall in the quasi category are Memphis May Fire, The Devil Wears Prada, Gideon, etc… Anyways, this song is so darn catchy & just happens to be one I can relate to. I never did listen to this band when they were around, but caught up to them much later sad to say. This song has an awesome groove & is basically a worship song as shown by the lyrics below. The band got some mainstream success ban in the day when their song I Still Believe (which was also covered by Russ Taff) was in the vampire movie The Lost Boys Listed also is a live version just because 80s live videos are always a treat! Chris Taylor is a mainstay in the music industry. He started off on vocals for this band that also consisted of Matt Slocum who would go on to work with Sixpence None The Richer. Texan Love Coma was indeed an alternative rock band when the term meant something. They released 2 LPs (Soul Rash & Language Of Fools) in the 90s before Chris went solo. They ended up releasing another back last year in 2020, but I did not see much recognition from the release. DENS released an absolutely stunning reworking of their 2020 full length, “Taming Tongues”, and re-released it as “Tamed Tongues” earlier this year. As you may have guessed, this too would further cement the band’s place among among some of the best bands in the music scene today. “Diverse” doesn’t even begin to tell the whole, complete story. So I saw a video recently on an Christian punk rawk Facebook group of Crashdog on Jerry Springer where they sang their The Pursuit Of Happiness song & vocalist Spike Nard had to defend it to some church looking guy whom was talking smack about Spike being a Christian & playing that genre of music. Today’s SOTD was one of my top 10 songs of all time growing up. I have this song hundreds of times & it has never gotten old. The lyrics deal with YHWH being there for us & is patiently waiting for us to come to HIM or return home. Hailing from New Zealand, the band dabbled in roots, funk & modern rock, but Jenny Gullen’s voice set the band apart from any other. Another quirky 90s alternative rock fun band, Hokus Pick (Maneuver) hailed from Canada. The band focused on writing sarcastic silly lyrics that portrayed a deeper message of Christian truths such as revealed in this SOTD – that  Jesus will hold true to His promise that He will return. Now that is an optimistic feeling. I chose this SOTD for a few reasons, with one being to make my son laugh.
