Sareem Poems & Ess Be - Eyedentity (feat. Miles Young)

It’s time to shake off those Monday blues with an encouraging song from Sareem Poems & Ess Be. The blend of hip-hop, electronic, and soul makes “Eyedentity” a standout from an artistic standpoint, though the lyrics only accentuate this. In verse one, focusing around the image of a young black male, Sareem cleverly states: “Don’t use slang, you talk white / Hip hop ain’t the only music that you like / Metallica tees on you just don’t look right.” The song comes from Mind Over Matter, which the duo will release on June 15.

Sareem had the following to say about the song:

Eyedentity, is a song about self reflection. It’s often the things that make us unique, that are the targets of teasing in our youth. Skin tone, facial features, height, freckles, hair etc. Many times this ridicule progresses into self hate. How many times have you looked in the mirror and thought, I hate ________… you fill in the blank.

My hope is for this song to be an encouragement to whomever hears it. Be bold in loving yourself just as you are. You are fearfully and wonderfully made. You are beautiful because the creator created you that way… not because someone tells you that you are, see for yourself.

“Eyedentity” is available now on iTunes, Bandcamp, Google Play, and other fine digital retailers.
