Wow, what a great band, with such potential! Sadly, Beloved released only one EP (originally for Vindicated from the Deep Water and later re-issued by Solid State) and one full length. That first EP rocked my world. I got to see the band live 2 or 3 times in this era and they were rapidly becoming my favourite emo-core band. They had a truly unique take on the genre fusing melodic indie rock with emotional emo and brutal hardcore, all in one go! It was really refreshing.
Case in point is our track of focus. Check out these lyrics, which tell the story of the freedom found after leaving a toxic relationship:
I made you promises, but I want them back
I gave you everything, but you stabbed me in the back
I finally figured out, that I can live without the pain I feel inside
I’ve opened up my eyes, begun to realize I trusted way too many lies
When all seems lost, it is sometimes then that we find the freedom we wanted. Here a comparison is drawn to the innocence of childhood:
Put me on my swing
I can see the whole world from here and I feel so alive
Subsequent titles were released under the moniker Beloved (US) so as not to be confused with the Britpop band. And while the North Carolina natives only released the pair of recordings, members turned up in other projects such as The Advent, Your Son is Dead, and others.
They also self released a small amount in 1999 the album, “And so it goes…”. Myself and only 1 other person I know, has this album. I don’t know how many others have it. I’ve never seen it listed on ebay. I check every once in a while.
Crazy! Not familiar with that at all.
