Today’s Song of The Day comes from a band called “Capital Lights”, which are little heard of this day and age and whose last album released all the way back in 2012. That was 12 years ago, can you believe it? This band released 2 fantastic albums. While some people didn’t find as much enjoyment in the last album (final?), I certainly did. One of the highlights (there are plenty) for me off that record was “Honey Don’t Jump”. With lyrics about pulling someone from the brink of depression only to show them God’s love, grace, and ultimately, salvation in him. It was a telling track that wasn’t as popular lyric wise in that time period of the 00’s/10’s where ambiguity and despair ruled the day. I find a lot of hope and joy in these lyrics as the lead vocalist sings, “Alone in the dark, the eyes of your heart see only a life so broken Step into the light, look up and you’ll find a Father with arms wide open, God’s got his arms wide open, God’s got his arms opened up with love, So, honey, don’t jump the gun”. This song appears on the album “Rhythm N’ Moves” (2012 / Tooth & Nail Records). Song and lyrics can be found below.

Sad, broken soul, she’s lost in a world so cold hearted
Not a lead, not a light to guide her out of this darkness
And she can’t go on, no she can’t go on
No she can’t go on any longer in this depression
Down a road in the wrong direction
I say, “darlin, put your raincoat on. I can see life is pulling you down
Flooded with lies and dangerous thoughts of taking the wrong way out”
Honey, don’t jump the gun
There’s a life worth living on
When the world comes crashing down
In God’s arms you’re safe and sound
Let the love of new life spread
In the light, you’ll walk ‘til death
Then, arise, a forgiven soul
As Daddy says, “welcome home and job well done”
Oh, honey, don’t jump the gun
A delivered soul, she walks in a world of new salvation
Planting truth, planting love, sprouting life throughout generations
And she can’t go on, no she can’t go on
No she can’t go on without singing a song of redemption
If you’re headed in a dark direction
She’ll say, “darlin, put your raincoat on. I can see you got your head in the clouds
I’m simply a light that guides you to life. He’ll be the one to lift you out”
Alone in the dark, the eyes of your heart see only a life so broken
Step into the light, look up and you’ll find a Father with arms wide open
God’s got his arms wide open
God’s got his arms opened up with love
So, honey, don’t jump the gun
Love the lyrics
Capital Lights was soo good. Both albums were pretty great. would have loved to see what happened if they’d have stayed together.
Love me some CL!
