It’s hard to believe it has been 10 years since the release of the first Close Your Eyes album on Victory Records – “We Will Overcome”. This album had a ton of great songs including this one called “The Body”, which is a favorite of mine and perfect for this Song of the Day post. Melodic hardcore and punk combine to make a furious blend of energetic singing and screaming all delivered in one healthy dose. “The Body” has inspiring lyrics and a solid message felt through the music. It’s heavy, melodic, introspective, and pummels everything in it’s path with complete honesty. “If this is all we are I’m walking out the door, I want no part of it, there has to be something more, Speaking hope without action can’t be the end, I can say I love you, but God it’s never enough, It’s never been enough, it’s never been, This is the end of all You have become, Open our hearts and let Yourself in”. Watch the music video and read the full lyrics below.
I’ve been shackled underneath all these lies for the last time
And I’m throwing them aside
There’s too much apathy that clouds my mind
Words cannot express the sadness I’m feeling
If this is all we are I’m walking out the door
I want no part of it, there has to be something more
Hope without action can’t be the end
I can say I love you, it’s never enough
Aren’t we the ones who walk the narrow road?
Aren’t we the voices that come from before the throne?
And when we stand for revolution’s sake
The world will know, they’ll know Your name
If this is all we are I’m walking out the door
I want no part of it, there has to be something more
Speaking hope without action can’t be the end
I can say I love you, but God it’s never enough
It’s never been enough, it’s never been
This is the end of all You have become
Open our hearts and let Yourself in
This is the end of all You have become
Open our hearts and let Yourself in
And I won’t stand for this
This can’t be the body You spoke of
‘Cause I have forgotten how to love
This can’t be the body You spoke of
I have forgotten how to love
And I won’t stand for this
I won’t stand for this
I won’t stand for this
I won’t stand for this
This is one of my first favorite bands when I came to Christ in 2010. I actually liked the second album more but both were fantastic releases.
So sad how they devolved and fell apart personally after that. A lot of bands in those early days taught me I should enjoy bands while they were around. They came and went fast.
This is so nostalgic for me. My friends group in college could not get enough of this record.
This album was worth all the hype. All of it.
“Song for the Broken” is for me one of those songs that just sums up everything I believe.
LOVE THIS SONG!!! & BAND
I neva liked da production on thsi album, so i thot da 2nd was beta. 2 bad they fel off, like several bands of dat era+ b4 hav dun.
So many memories of this album and band. I did a lot of traveling back then and would rock this on full volume during all the air turbulence.
What a fantastic band.
Still wearing their sweatshirt lol.
