Matthew Reed’s debut worship album is all about hope. Whether he’s singing about the Church coming alive to serve and worship God (“Awake, Awake,” “Come Now”) or about we as Christians turning to God’s Spirit as our very life source (“Pour Out”), Matthew Reed proclaims the power of God, asking for revival and acknowledging our constant dependence on Jesus Christ. Musically, these praise anthems are clearly meant for crowds to sing along, similar to the energetic songs of Chris Tomlin and Aaron Gillespie. My standout track is “Emmanuel,” a slower and softer tune that intimately praises God’s being here with us in this life.
Overall: While you’ve heard this style before, this is a great all-around worship release. The lyrics are thoughtful and heartfelt, and the music is also well done. Grab this album for some motivation to truly live for the One in whom “we live and move and have our being,” (Acts 17:28).
