REVIEW : Gold, Frankincense, & Myrrh - GFM Acoustic

It wasn’t long ago that GFM announced an acoustic ep, set for release on December 1st. With the release date being just about a week out, I thought I’d tap out a quick review on it. I was fortunate enough to have caught the band’s recent show at the Space Coast State Fair in Melbourne, FL. The show was great and sitting right there on the merch table were copies of the acoustic ep, available a few weeks ahead of the scheduled release date. Needless to say, I picked one up.… Continued →

Song of the Day: Corey Crowder - Learning to Let Go

Last week, over at the IVM discussion group on Facebook, a conversation ensued about indie labels within the Christian music scene. Mono vs. Stereo was mentioned, and I commented about their impressive 2005 compilation, The Revolution Will Begin in the Blink of an Eye Vol. 2. One of the artists I enjoyed most on this CD was A Farewell to Arms, who later went by his personal name, Corey Crowder. Currently, it looks like Crowder is more involved in the country music scene as a producer/songwriter, rather than focusing on his work as a solo artist.… Continued →

Introducing: Forum Blue

I’d like to point our readers in the direction of this really great new project from Ray Torres called “Forum Blue”. Ray has been a tremendously talented young guy who released prior projects as “Ray Torres & The Mercy” and under his name (solo). Now he is back with more songs as Forum Blue and you can take a listen to these “home demos” right here on bandcamp (or listen below). Think Dashboard Confessional, Secondhand Serenade, Vocal Few, Hall & Oates, etc. A soulful singer with a powerful voice.… Continued →

David Tamaoka (Pennylane) - Ephesians 2:1-10 (Song)

Pennylane guitarist and vocalist – David Tamaoka, has recorded some “solo” music under his own name for the past 10+ years, ever since his band went on an extended hiatus. His studio output has been slim to none as he has worked steadily on building his family and working with his Church there in Hawaii. Well I am excited to reveal that he has finally emerged with some “live” recordings (with more to come hopefully) and you can hear one of them below. There are rumors of a Pennylane “reunion” and a new release but we’ll just leave it at that.… Continued →

Michael W. Stand Releases Brand New 3 Song Ep Through Thumper Punk

June 13, 2017, Santa Cruz, California. Thumper Punk Records is thrilled to announce the release of Michael W. Stand’s contribution to the 3 Song Acoustic EP series. Michael W. Stand is a pioneer in gospel music, with a distinguished career that spans several decades and multiple genres. Founded in the early 1980s, his band The Altar Boys developed a worldwide following as they boldly expressed their faith over Orange County style punk and alternative rock. Thumper Punk Records is stoked to announce the release of Brock Diamond’s contribution to the 3 Song Acoustic EP series. Currently the singer and guitar player for punk n’ roll band The Berzerkers, Brock is a long-time fixture in the Orange County, California music scene (Simplex, Fear God, Evasive Action). Till You're All I See - Seth Davey

REVIEW : Till You're All I See - Seth Davey

Prior to 2015’s stunning Into the Sea, Attalus was a fairly unknown. Fronted by Seth Davey, vocalist, pianist, and lyricist, this Facedown debut made plenty best-of-the-year lists. Though Davey has since amicably parted with the band, he has nonetheless kept up with musical endeavors which come to fruition in his debut solo album, Till You’re All I See. While this isn’t an Attalus record by any means, it’s hard to overlook the common elements. Davey again brings lyrical brilliance, this time in a more bare and vulnerable manner with naught more than piano to complement his vocals.… Continued →

Vocal Few - Snowdrift

REVIEW : Vocal Few - Snowdrift EP

I’ll admit I’m far from a fan of Christmas. Radios begin playing these tunes right after Halloween, depicting a winter so far from the reality of the slushy midwest Decembers and the hysteria of holiday shoppers. Thankfully, Vocal Few’s Snowdrift EP is a refreshingly honest take on the season. As a follow up to 2015’s The Dream Alive EP, the husband-and-wife duo have returned to deliver more of that stripped down goodness. Albeit five songs in length, there’s still plenty of territory covered here. From enjoying a day off from work (Ice Storm 2008), to battling through loneliness and literal darkness of winter (Not Giving Up), to songs of adoration, the EP finds the balance between honesty and commercialism.… Continued →

Phinehas "Fight Through The Night Ep" Available December 16th

I was browsing iTunes this morning and found a sweet pre-order from the band Phinehas for their upcoming ep “Fight Through The Night” (available December 16th). You can even listen to the samples on iTunes. It appears to be an “acoustic” release with the band backing up Sean’s strong hit worthy voice (if any guy is made for radio, it’s him). One song “Book of Names” features Garrett Russell of Silent Planet. This Ep follows the same feel as their 2013 “The Bridge Between” Ep. It appears that this will be an independent release as the label says “Phinehas LLC”.… Continued →
