Katharos is yet another project from Fire (Elgibbor, Fire Throne, Nuclear Blaze) on vocals and guitars, this time with help from drummer Taberah. There is also some collaboration from former Frost Like Ashes members Sebat and Azahel for live dates.
This recording is a single and ‘b-side’ and what we have here is no-frills, raw black metal. No ‘atmospheric’ or ‘symphonic’ keyboards. No overdubs or anything of the like. This could easily pass as a release from the mid-90s Norwegian BM scene. Appropriately lo-fi with hissed/snarled vocals and trebly guitars, this is great if you like first or second wave black metal.… Continued →

REVIEW : TIMŌRĀTUS - Reverentia
While this band hails from Louisville, I would have sworn they were from eastern Europe somewhere. That’s a good thing. Reverentia is yet another quality post-metal release I’ve come across recently. But whereas the mysterious band God revel in djent rhythms and instrumental anthems to connect the listener to God, TIMŌRĀTUS takes a different approach altogether. Each album is written and recorded in a different style. I’ve sampled some of the other albums and there’s black metal, thrash, doom and experimental hybrids.
The music on Reverentia was takes on form of post-metal is impregnated with black metal atmospherics, layers of shoegaze wall-of-sound sonics and doom metal riffs, creating a drone metal beast! … Continued →

Christageddon Release "I Am Who I Am"
This last week not only saw a new song from Pantokrator, but also we see a new song from Christageddon. An online project, led by Kristian of The Synics Awakening, has brought together musicians from Abated Mass of Flesh, Demonic Extinction, and now Segør from Blood Covenant.
The project has drifted between a few different styles over the years and from how it appears, Segør brings in a heavy symphonic element to the band. Synths that hearken Dimmu Borgir’s own iconic epic symphonic black metal combined with Segør’s own signature guttural snarls and growls create a beautiful yet darkened symphony of holy terror for all who dare to listen and heed the message.… Continued →

As a two year anniversary for the forum The Blackest Light, DC Mills (Vials of Wrath) helped all the musician members release a compilation for the group. You’ll see a bunch of bands you may have heard of represented: O, Majestic Winter, Corpse, Vials of Wrath, or maybe Blood Thirsty. Showcasing a variety of distribution centers, these bands have been on Vision of God Records, SkyBurnsBlack Records, Sanctus Gladius Records, and Vociferator Entertainment. This compilation features a fair amount of current Christian black metal, death metal, and grindcore, and offers some insight in what the underground has to offer.… Continued →

Second band, day after. Just as I predicted. Anyways, Rottweiler has a new band, O Wretched One. They are said to sound like Fleshgod Apocalypse, Cradle of Filth, and Dimmu Borgir. The band is from Wisconsin and formed in 2009. The band was featured on the Christian Deathcore comps a few times if I’m correct. The band has a new song for download called “Awaken the Warrior”. The Unblack metal project, Ascending King has began to finish their debut EP. The band has a sound like Atmospheric Black metal with Zao/Carcass Vocals. Kekal to Release New Album in 2018
The Industrial/black metal band Kekal has been working on new material. Earlier this year, a little over a month ago, Jeff Arwadi, the main man behind the band (hey that rhymed), put out a post giving clarification on the band’s status and new music. Kekal started in 1995 and has gone through minor lineup changes. The band has had no official members since August 8, 2009, when Jeff Arwadi and Leo Setiawan both quit the band. All the former members have contributed to albums since the departure of these members.… Continued →
