Anberlin Announce New EP + New Song

I missed posting about this over the long Fourth of July weekend. Was busy with family and health issues. Anyway, one of my personal favorite Rock bands are back in action. Anberlin have announced their signing to Equal Vision (as reported earlier) and just dropped their new single “Circles”. While different, this song invokes a certain familiarity and instant likability. If you are a longtime fan then I’m sure many of you will appreciate the new direction. I am just hoping for some sounds akin to their earlier material so we shall see.… Continued →

REVIEW : Cicero - You Can't Outrun Your Mouth

Hailing from Portland, OR, Cicero began in the mid-00s and called it quits a few years later, only to reform last year. Greg Dimick (Crux, Empty Tomb, Govt Hate Mail) got me a copy of their new album so I could review it, and I’m grateful for the opportunity. You Can’t Outrun Your Mouth is being advertised as 90s emo, but in some ways that’s a disservice to the band. While there are certainly hints at Midwestern emo, particularly the more subdued Christie Front Drive-take on the genre (listen to “Monsters in Masks” and tell me you don’t hear it), YCOYM is more nuanced than that.… Continued →

Song of the Day: Acceptance - Fire & Rain

Acceptance is a pop punk band from Washington state. I remember their song Different on mainstream radio back when emo ruled the airwaves in the early to mid 2000s. They had originally broke up in 2006, but reunited in 2017 & released albums on the label that I have always wanted to work for: Tooth & Nail. They have toured with Anberlin, Finch, Further Seems Forever & The Julian Theory all of whom I have seen live. The band has had several catchy songs including Take Cover, Not Afraid & this SOTD.… Continued →

Names Without Numbers - You Do The Talking (New Lyric Video)

I’d like to shed new light on this recent new song from Names Without Numbers. The song is called “You Do The Talking” and it’s hard to argue that this isn’t the BEST song the band has done. The band without a doubt have a diverse sound yet are extremely melodic, with precise attention pointed toward addictive melodies, and unforgettable harmonies. They are an alt-rock band with indie roots clearly showing, not afraid to shy away from a certain pop like influence. They straddle the line between the raw, unfiltered power of a rock band set to storm the stage with power and fury, and a band clearly wearing their pop side on their sleeves.… Continued →

The Juliana Theory - Playback '99 (Burn The Cassette Deck)

The Juliana Theory return with a brand new song and news of an ep that’ll drop in May through Equal Vision Records. Check out the new song “Playback ’99 (Burn The Cassette Deck)” below. This is all kinds of fun and the nostalgia runs deep through their veins. I still bump “Understand This is a Dream”, “Emotion Is Dead”, and “Love”, and I definitely still enjoy them. Looking forward to the new ep. “Still The Same Kids, Pt. 1”, is out May 6th and you can pre-order in several different formats/bundles right here.… Continued →

Dismissed Take The Good With The Bad for 19 Years

It’s hard to believe that 19 years have passed since a young 24 year old Brandon connected with a band of youngsters that nobody outside of our very small small population of Orange/San Diego counties had heard. I remember eating some tasty tex-mex food at Chevy’s (remember that place?) here in Laguna Niguel, CA. back in early 2003 and through the talking noise of fellow patrons with full bellies of perfectly formed machine made tortillas, I discussed the future of IVM and a band, Dismissed. It changed my life, quite literally.… Continued →

Names Without Numbers - You Do The Talking (Lyric Video)

Names Without Numbers return with their first NEW song of 2022. The song is titled “You Do The Talking” and it deals with issues of self doubt, social anxiety, and maintaining confidence while attempting to stay strong and dealing through the emotions. It’s a powerful track not just for subject matter but also because the music is some of the best out there. This is without a doubt one of the band’s strongest songs on record and one of my personal favorites. Check out “You Do The Talking” below.… Continued →

25 Of My Favorite Albums From 1996

This is my 25th anniversary tribute to albums that released during the year of 1996 (and/or presumed to have released during this particular year). It was a monumental year in underground, indie music and one that was ignited by artists sharing a similar Christian Faith. While the rest of the world was consuming their Michael W Smith, or Newsboys, Audio Adrenaline, DC Talk, Amy Grant, Rebecca St. James, Jars of Clay, or even that guy who wrote the Butterfly Kisses song, we on the indie circuit side of things were rejoicing with a newfound optimism.… Continued →

Song of the Day: Subseven - Emotion

Subseven was a rock (some say emo/screamo) band from Oklahoma that signed with Flicker Records in 2003. The band would release “Subseven: The Ep” and the full length “Free to Conquer” before calling it a day in 2005. This Song of the Day, “Emotion”, hits hard and fast with a chorus sure to stay in your head all day. Don’t miss it!… Continued →

Red Weather Release Nostalgia Driven Gem of an Album

Virginia Beach, VA. based Indie/Emo Rock band – Red Weather, just put out a real quality album by the name of “Wish You Well”, that was released last Friday. The album is that sort of melodic roller coaster ride full of emotions, feelings, ambition, and that unmistakable sense of nostalgia pulling it all together. You think you know the genre, well think again. Let Red Weather breathe new life into past sounds and hear them play with energy, passion, and a zest for life.… Continued →

Further Seems Forever x Strongarm Collab?

This is just a rumor but word on the street is that a possible Strongarm reunion (either in song or set) is taking place at the end of Further Seems Forever’s performance at Furnace Fest this weekend. Don’t quote me but a special ending is planned so stick around, #thesecretsoftheheartmademanifest. Who would love to hear a little Strongarm for old time’s sake? They should totally live stream this as well as the entire fest for us losers stuck at home wishing they were at Furnace Fest.… Continued →

Beloved Drop First New Original Song In Nearly 2 Decades

Returning to our collective mindset here in 2021 with their first new song in almost 20 years is “Abyss” by the band Beloved. It is everything you wanted the band to sound like in 2021 and everything you’ve dreamed about for years. It certainly does live up to expectations and takes them in an entirely new yet still grasping on to pieces of the past. While I can certainly name off handfuls of bands that have recently reunited that maybe shouldn’t have, Beloved are not one of those bands.… Continued →

Anberlin - Two Graves (Official Lyric Video)

Anberlin are back after a long hiatus and are presenting their first new song since 2014 titled “Two Graves”. It is a definite “heavy” song in the realm of Anberlin music and I’m sure many will come to love this song as well as the band. They’ve certainly been missed and just hearing new music after all this time is a refreshing dose of nostalgia. Check out the song below and the band at a show near you this fall.… Continued →

Radical Radical Release 3rd Song, "I'm Not Ok, and That's Ok"

This is a truly exciting and mood stimulating new music project from Adam Lohrbach formerly of pop-punk kings, Home Grown. Radical Radical has now grown to be an official band with 4 members and played their first live show a few weeks ago to a very enthusiastic crowd here in Southern California. The band just released their latest song, the 3rd one so far in 2021 for those keeping track. The song is titled “I’m Not OK, and That’s OK”, which most definitely has an honest, open, and hopeful viewpoint expressed through some great emo/pop-punk.… Continued →
