SoCal hardcore band Point of Recognition (or Point of Wreckinthangs as they were affectionately known by fans) released 3 full-lengths, an EP and a pair of split releases before disbanding in the mid-2000s. Members popped up elsewhere in the scene, but the band’s existence was sadly short. Nonetheless, their impact was felt strongly in both the Christian and secular hardcore scenes. Playing a heavy form of “new school” or “tough guy” hardcore, they stuck close to their roots, not following into the more and more metal-influenced versions of hardcore that were developing rapidly around them.… Continued →

Jason Parker who played in Focused also played in the band Outnumbered. They produced a demo or two and had members who played in The Blamed, Stavesacre, Focused, etc. The band played quite a bit back in the early to mid-90’s and was definitely a spirit-filled hardcore band. The Crucified is probably the most legendary Christian hardcore band of all time. They only released 2 full-length albums (plus some demos, and later re-issues) before disbanding in the early 90s. However, their influence cannot be overstated. Their blending of hardcore punk and thrash metal into a unique take on crossover thrash touched and influenced bands in genres as diverse punk, alternative, metal, hardcore and even industrial. Hey Everyone! I pray all is well! I wanted to inform everyone of a new Spotify playlist I put together. I've been listening to a lot of foreign Christian artists lately. Portuguese is the second most foreign language of artists in my collection, so I thought people need to hear and know about this.

Zao had already made a name for themselves, working up from the underground, with a 7″, cassette demo(s) and 2 full-lengths. They were quickly becoming known for taking hardcore in a new direction. I remember a friend telling me that although he loved the riffs on their sophomore effort Splinter Shards the Birth of Separation, he also found them really hard to dance to. By the time Give us Barrabbas came out (the band’s 7th album), The Blamed had already gone through at least 4 different genres: punk rock, crossover thrash, hardcore punk, and punk metal. I was listening to this Unashamed song the other day through one of those Daily Mix Spotify Playlists that they so graciously create for me each day and I was brought back to a different time in my youth. So much anger, rage, and hope all in one song. First of all, Furnace Fest will make a return in 2020 with an as yet to be determined/announced lineup….except in the case of BELOVED. Yep, the highly underrated Solid State Records band who released an Ep and Full length on Solid State Records (plus some other indie recordings pre-Solid State) before calling it quits with a few members joining other bands like Advent and The Almost (among others), IS BACK and ready to rock your faces off. I’m a sucker for this style of hardcore–really fast, short songs, with equal parts melody and anger thrown in for good measure. For some reason, this subgenre didn’t have nearly as much of a following in Christian circles as their secular counterparts, making Hit the Deck stand out even more. They released one full-length on Facedown imprint Strike First Records, and had a couple of demos as well, all of which can be found as digital downloads if you know where to look.… Continued →
