Song of the Day: Jetenderpaul - Don't Look Down

Lo-fi indie rockers, hailing from Kansas, Jetenderpaul were delightfully weird. They simultaneously embodied the avant-garde and pop music, writing short, melodious ditties that would never be on radio even though they should be. I was a huge fan of Velvet Blue Music in the 90s and picked up this EP on a whim, and I wasn’t disappointed. Although there really was nothing else like it in the Christian scene, the band’s work often appeals to fans of material from Danielson Famile and Havalina Rail Co. to Soul-Junk and Pony Express.… Continued →

Song of The Day: Teddy At Night - Blueberry Water

My song for the day is from a newer indie-pop artist by the name of Teddy At Night. Teddy (Boldt) played drums for bands like Wavorly, Family Force 5, and more recently For King & Country, as well as many others. On his first solo endeavor as singer/songwriter, his songs take on more of a pop sheen, sprinkled with a heavy dose of 80’s like synth driven new wave. These are songs for the broken-hearted, the lovers, and the seekers. These beautifully composed pop inspired takes are interwoven with a certain level of professionalism mixed with Teddy’s unforgettable vocal delivery.… Continued →

Benjamin Daniel Drops Debut Indie Full Length

Benjamin Daniel (Ben Kunz) a friend and constant IVM supporter over the years has just dropped his debut full length titled “Shaping Season Vol. 1”. If you could imagine a collaboration of David Bazan, Sufjan Stevens, Manchester Orchestra, My Epic, Anathallo, and The Fray, you’ll get a hint as to the direction of these songs. This is beauty in it’s most purest form and a stripped down approach that takes the listener on a moody journey through the stories and music of Mr. Benjamin Daniel.… Continued →

Sleeping At Last - Amazing Grace

Well friends, I am turning a corner (finally) and beginning to heal from a bad illness. I got hit hard with really bad pneumonia, and a sinus infection. I’ve been pretty much confined to my home for 8 days now because I was too ill to do much else. I hate being sick. Anyway, I found this song version of “Amazing Grace” by the much loved indie act – Sleeping At Last, to be a beautiful rendition that deserves much praise and adoration. I know this song has been covered a gazillion times but this classic got a simple, yet carefully composed arrangement centered around a soothing voice and his piano.… Continued →

Song of the Day: Sufjan Stevens - Jacksonville

Here’s the thing . . . Sufjan is incredible. Whether or not you like his music, one has to acknowledge the astounding amount of talent the guy has. To me, he is the musical equivalent to the literary Tolkien. What I mean is this: somewhere in the deep recesses of their brains, the creative impetus for all those ideas already existed. For Tolkien it was a myriad of languages, races and lands–each with their own histories and storylines. For Stevens, it’s his complex musical compositions alternately cloaked in folk, electronica, and baroque hues.… Continued →

Panther City Riots (Matt Shelton) Release Debut Song "Desire"

Matt Shelton formerly of Letter Kills, The Wedding, and his solo work IS BACK with brand new project titled Panther City Riots. Check out their debut song titled “Desire” below. Awesome band name a song full of new wave-like alt-pop ambiance. It’s like The Cure meets Blaq Audio meets Depeche Mode walking into a room with U2 and Head Automatica. Good stuff and I think a lot of people are going to dig this new sound/direction. Check out his kickstarter campaign to fund the new album.… Continued →

Mission House - I Don't Have Much (Official Lyric Video)

The very talented duo known as Mission House have just released their second single off the upcoming 7 song “Self Titled” project due out November 1st via Integrity Music. Lush arrangement with a moving and emotional core consisting of Taylor and Jess’s ethereal, heavenly voices is pure joy. Meant to inspire, leading one into a prayerful meditation and focus on pure worship, this group is certainly one to keep your eyes/ears on. I’ll post the first single below in addition to “I Don’t Have Much”.… Continued →

REVIEW : Bram Cools - We Are Civilised!?

The Belgian lo-fi Christian scene himself, Bram Cools, is back with a fourth album. More quirky weirdness accompanied by lyrics that tackle a wide range of social topics. I don’t know how familiar IVM readers are with this Belgian artist, but Bram makes eccentric lo-fi indie pop/rock with socially-conscious lyrics from a European viewpoint. He has over a dozen albums under his belt and Civilised is his latest full length. It stays within the lo-fi umbrella, yet true to that genre, touches on a variety of styles including indie rock, electronica, spoken word, trip-hop, etc.… Continued →
