Slow Coming Day is crushing it, I mean absolutely slamming it with this new song titled “Speak Now or Forever Hold Your Peace”. This is the band’s return to new recorded music as a group which is being said of almost 2 decades but I guess those special Indie Vision Music songs from a few years ago will remain unknown secret hits 😉 This song just like all their other music, hits in all the right places and soars like so many other songs fail to do.… Continued →

REVIEW : Sally Grayson - The Darkness in Me
While I was first introduced to Sally Grayson formally in 2020, during the covid-quarantine era, it turns out that I had already heard versions of her music many years prior. She’d fronted Black Swift (based in Germany where Grayson transplanted) for a number of years, but long before that she was in Michigan-based (her native homeland) Standbye, an emo/indie rock band by whom I owned a CD. All that to say that while Sally’s name may not be familiar to the masses, she’s been making credible musical art for well over two decades now.… Continued →

Song of the Day: Destroy Nate Allen - B**bie Bar
Destroy Nate Allen is a fun, energetic band that mixes the simplicity and energy of punk rock with the acoustic sounds of folk, making for an interesting take on folk-punk. Quirky but sincere lyrics and vocal styles combine with straight-forward messages–usually on subjects other artists don’t want to touch–make for both a challenging and entertaining listen.
Take “Boobie Bar” for instance. On the one hand it’s a crude song whose title I had to censor, just so it doesn’t get picked up by filters. On the other hand, the intent behind the song is just about as pure as it gets:
Don’t go down to the boobie bar
If you want a real relationship, you won’t get far
Don’t go to that boogie bar
The song comes from their 2012 album, With Our Powers Combined.… Continued →

The Julies Release Brand New Song Titled "Symmetry"
The Julies are back in a big way this year. They’ve had a couple prior (old) albums repackaged and released on Vinyl for the first time by Lost In Ohio and now they come back with a brand new song titled “Symmetry” which is quite frankly the best I’ve ever heard from them or any likeminded band for that matter. I hate using all the genre specific classifications when describing songs such as this because honestly, this band goes above and beyond to bring you music which rides a wave of uniquely, “Julies” music but terms like “shoegaze”, “indie pop rock”, “Dream pop”, etc could easily be applied to this then twisted around and around with the beautiful color hues projecting outwards.… Continued →

Song of the Day: Lovelorn - Feather
This was one of those ‘one and done’ bands, meaning they only released one album as Lovelorn. However, they were connected directly and indirectly to a number of other projects. Vocalist Jayson Holmes had been in metalcore band Eso-Charis, and later formed The Handshake Murders (who mostly recorded on secular labels). Corey Putman (Eso-Charis, Norma Jean) and Arthur Green (Eso-Charis, Living Sacrifice) also made appearances on the album.
The album is a wonderfully strange concoction of emo-core, hardcore, indie rock and math rock–almost like Roadside Monument meets Coalesce, but with bits of Karate thrown in just because.… Continued →

Song of the Day: Twothirtyeight - Songs Will Write the Words
Early 2000s emo, you gotta love it! One of the best, and painfully one of the most obscure in the genre was twothirtyeight (or sometimes 238). The band hailed from Pensacola, FL in the state’s panhandle. Florida seemed to be a haven for emo and hardcore during that era, and many of those bands ended up on Birmingham, AL’s Takehold Records, and then eventually on Tooth & Nail when they bought Takehold’s roster and much of its back-catalogue.
Twothirtyeight played a style of emo that minimized the hardcore influence and instead delved into a deeply emotional form of indie rock, like secular counterparts in Braid, Cursive, or Christie Front Drive.… Continued →

Song of the Day: Delta Haymax - Tidal Wave
Gosh, this song . . . this band . . . has a way of evoking memories of a certain period of my life. Lo-fi indie rock with only 2 members. One on guitar and vocals, and the other on drums. They released a very short–only 3 songs–but brilliant self-titled EP on Tooth & Nail in 1997. T&N had a fantastic run of EPs around that time (Pedro the Lion, Warlord, Inner Means, Training for Utopia, etc.) and this was certainly one of them. The songs were lo-fi, but not noisy.… Continued →

Indie Vision Music Premiere: Names Without Numbers "Florida" (Official Lyric Video)
Indie Vision Music is proud to premiere the Lyric Video for the brand new track “Florida” from the midwest Indie-Pop-Rock act – Names Without Numbers. The song is titled “Florida” and is their most hotly anticipated new song, a track that sets them apart from the sameness and a rise above the generic. This is simply put, great music and THE perfect introduction to a band know for their soaring melodies and emotional storytelling. If you’ve been thirsting for an amazing rock song with hooks that rides that “indie” edge without sounding boring or repetitive, then this is a track that’ll make you a fan from the start.… Continued →
Damien Jurado Pulls His Music from Spotify for Ethical Reasons
Singer-songwriter and indie darling, Damien Jurado, long known for his poignant songs and unique arrangements, has as of this week pulled all of his music from streaming giant Spotify. The announcement came yesterday via his blog.
Jurado didn’t mince words when it came to the reason behind his decision: “I simply cannot continue to support or align myself with a corporation who continues to profit off of the musicians it refuses to pay a fair and decent wage.”

Song of the Day: Coolidge - Trapped
The best way I can describe Coolidge is as a sort of ‘prequel supergroup.’ All of the members are now well-known for their contributions to indie rock, though none of them were very well-known at the time, and Coolidge remains a fairly obscure blip on the map of alternative music.
Formed in 1992, the band featured Damien Jurado on bass and vocals, David Bazan (Pedro the Lion, Headphones, Lo Tom) on drums, and Eben Haase (Blenderhead, Don’t Know) on guitar. They played an intense and unique form of emo-core that interweaved lo-fi indie rock into the mix.… Continued →

Song of the Day: Half-Handed Cloud - Christmas Baby's Last Straw
Honestly I think this is a song that only Half-Handed Cloud could write. Aside from the ever-present pop bliss is a song about a baby trying to reach shiny Christmas ornaments that are out of reach, and yet so desirable. But Ringhofer makes a point that only he could make, about humanity’s incessant need to grasp for shining things that are always slightly out of reach and that we really don’t need after all.
Merry Christmas IVM friends–may you find the true joy of Christmas this year–the baby in the manger!… Continued →

Names Without Numbers "Florida" Coming Soon
Names Without Numbers will return very soon with yet another incredible and a “built for radio” sound that they’ve become world renown for. I can’t promise it’ll sound exactly like that but I’m just going off past experiences and knowing this band actually has talent and experience to back up the hype. If I were to guess I’d say this will be absolute perfection, like if I had to guess and all. Allen Odell Releases "Full Hearts, Empty Places"
I think we missed posting about this new full length from Allen Odell, a month ago. Allen creates some really mellow, chill, spiritually relevant post-emo and indie music that inspires. It’s one of those albums that draws you in with subtlety and puts you on a journey of discovery and heaven gazing self-reflection. This isn’t some sort of fists in the air, aggressive rock anthem worthy music to cause a ruckus. It is simply just good, deep music that will leave you haunted by soft spoken melodies.… Continued →

Song of the Day: They Sang as They Slew - City Highs, City Lows
Contrary to what the band name suggests, They Sang as They Slew was not a metal or hardcore band, actually quite far from either. If you hear similarities to the indie rock of Luxury, it’s because half of the band came from Luxury while they were on a break from touring–namely guitarist Jamie Bozeman and bassist Chris Foley (both of whom are Orthodox priests in their day job).
I hope some fans recognize the band name from the epic battle scene in Lord of the Rings (the book, not the movie).… Continued →

REVIEW : LN - Monkeys & Spoons
It’s so great to have Gary Murray and co. back to making music again after almost a decade of quietude. Gary had to retreat for a few years beginning in 2014 while taking care of aging parents and other personal matters. Monkeys & Spoons certainly reflects that solitude, as well as the grief of losing someone you’ve had close. While the album cover nearly depicts contents of jazz fusion or post-rock (both Koinonia and strangely, Talk Talk are evoked by the artwork), don’t be led astray there.… Continued →
