That Signum Regis EP is now a full length album

In September of 2016, power metal band Signum Regis announced they would be releasing an EP this year. Well, they were in such a groove recording those initial 7 tracks that they decided not to ruin the mood and moved forward to make a full album. They’ve entered the studio and recorded 3 more songs to bring it to a total of 10 tracks clocking in at 46 minutes. This will be their 5th album overall. It is titled Decennium Primum and it will be released on March 17.… Continued →

On January 10, 2017, Børud went to Facebook with a video of good news and bad news. Dalbakk is no longer apart of the band, as he is busy with life, but the band announced his replacement. The band has announced that Elisha Mullins of The Burial will be taking over vocals.… Continued →

Spoken Begins Tracking New Album

Spoken are busy at it once again and have begun tracking their new album. This will be the follow up to “Breathe Again” which released in 2015. Unfortunately recent guitarist/songwriter Scoop Roberts will be stepping away from the band after they record this new album. You can watch a video below detailing why. I think they need to bring back Jef Cunningham and go out on tour playing hits from their earlier 4 albums from 2000-2007. That’d be sweet!… Continued →

REVIEW : Final Surrender - Nothing But Void

How common is metal in Asia? Does anyone know? The genre of metal is a rare one to say the least, especially over in Asia. Final Surrender is one of the pioneers of the genre there. The Progressive metalcore act has been working hard on this album. Their debut album, Empty Graves, was released 4 years ago. The album begins with the single “Nothing But Void”. The track brings elements of techno music, Progressive metalcore, and thrash metal. There is plenty of work going on with the drums and percussion.… Continued →

The Best of 2016: Rob Jensen

In 2016, I saw my tastes in music grow a bit more. This would account for why you’ll see some albums make an appearance on this list that, if you know me, you wouldn’t normally expect to see here. Overall, I thought it was a pretty good year for music, but a number of times some of the albums I was most excited about lost something after numerous listen throughs. This could account for why some albums (if you know me) you’d expect to see on my list are noticeably absent.… Continued →

5 Christian Metal Bands You May Not Have Heard Of (80's/90's Version)

Today, I am posting a list of Christian Metal bands from the old days that aren’t mentioned very often when talking about Christian metal. Most of them tend to be Nu-metal, ironically, even though the 90’s was the time for Nu-Metal/Rapcore. 5. Oficina G3 Oficina G3 is a Christian prog metal act from the late 80’s. Forming in 1987, the band began as a heavy metal/hard rock band, influenced by Stryper and Petra, but progressed into a Progressive metal/nu-metal/metalcore-ish band. This band was most likely thrown out, due to this period, when the Christian thrash scene had just hit it’s stride, with the Big 4 of the Christian scene: Deliverance, Vengeance Rising, Tourniquet and Believer.… Continued →

Phinehas "Fight Through The Night Ep" Available December 16th

I was browsing iTunes this morning and found a sweet pre-order from the band Phinehas for their upcoming ep “Fight Through The Night” (available December 16th). You can even listen to the samples on iTunes. It appears to be an “acoustic” release with the band backing up Sean’s strong hit worthy voice (if any guy is made for radio, it’s him). One song “Book of Names” features Garrett Russell of Silent Planet. This Ep follows the same feel as their 2013 “The Bridge Between” Ep. It appears that this will be an independent release as the label says “Phinehas LLC”.… Continued →

REVIEW : To Speak Of Wolves - New Bones EP

It’s been a very quiet handful of years for the North Carolina metal act “To Speak Of Wolves”. After releasing the thunderous “Find Your Worth, Come Home,” they vanished from the music scene with little having to say about it. Four years later, they’ve come back from the dead releasing an EP and a relentless touring schedule. It’s a worrisome thing coming back after so much time passing. Usually when bands take years off, they return with only a hint of what they once had simply because they lost the sound they used to call their own.… Continued →

Islander - Bad Guy

An album I’ve been enjoying since it was released back in August is by the band Islander. The album is called “Power Under Control” and it has that Blindside meets POD meets Deftones meets Papa Roach vibe. The album was released by Victory Records back on August 5th (stream on spotify below) and this is a video for the track “Bad Buy” off the album. Enjoy!

REVIEW : Lovely Things In Ugly Places by Mattie Montgomery

In the first two sentences of his new book, Lovely Things In Ugly Places, Mattie Montgomery wastes no time expressing what he believes the heart of God is…love for the broken; “For those who are forgotten or feared by most of our post-modern church”. He goes on to say that “Wherever fear has built a wall, love can build a bridge.” What follows throughout the rest of the book are examples of exactly that, as Mattie recounts the history of For Today and intertwines the numerous interactions he’s had over the years with various folks he’s met during his time with the band.… Continued →
