In 2016, I saw my tastes in music grow a bit more. This would account for why you’ll see some albums make an appearance on this list that, if you know me, you wouldn’t normally expect to see here. Overall, I thought it was a pretty good year for music, but a number of times some of the albums I was most excited about lost something after numerous listen throughs. This could account for why some albums (if you know me) you’d expect to see on my list are noticeably absent.… Continued →

Update on Dallas Taylor (Maylene & The Sons of Disaster/Ex-Underoath)
Dallas Taylor the current vocalist for Maylene & The Sons of Disaster and former Underoath vocalist, has offered an update on his tragic accident a few months ago. He has certainly had a long road to recovery and is still on that path. His survival is a total miracle of God and the man appears to be quite optimistic about his trauma. Read more below. Continue to pray for Dallas and feel free to contribute to a GoFundMe page to help cover costs associated with his accident and hospital care.… Continued →

Settle the Sky to Reunite in 2017
The Ohio metalcore band Settle the Sky, is about to perform in February of 2017. The band has been inactive since 2010. The band formed in 2006 with JD Merill. The band was only around for four years (2006-2010). Settle the Sky only released an EP through StandBy Records, titled Now That We’re Waiting and a Demo. The band is prepping for a reunion show in February 17, 2017 and will hopefully make this a full-on reunion.… Continued →
5 Christian Metal/Hardcore Bands That You May Not Have Heard Of
These are some bands that were sort of popular, but didn’t get very far. Hopefully this sheds some light to the underground SFHC Scene or more appropriately, SFMC Scene.
5. One Way/Raid
Christian metalcore/hardcore One Way formed in… I don’t know when. The 80’s. The band did not have very much success or really any publications. Other than one in HM in 1991. But Raid, their next band, had a little more success. Same genre as One Way, but with a Straight-Edge message, alongside the uplifting Christian message.… Continued →

5. Saints Can Lie
Metalcore acts have become very common in the United States. But Saints Can Lie seem to be doing something sort of fresh. The band formed in 2012 with the original lineup of brothers Vocalist Jake and Guitarist/Pianist Hunter Shaw, Guitarist John McDonough and Drummer Bryce Garland. The band comes from Texas, home to many amazing metal bands including Pantera and The Famine.… Continued →

5. A Thousand Times Repent
Deathcore, as of late, has been extremely popular, especially with the last 4-5 years. If you want some good Christian deathcore, go listen to A Thousand Times Repent, as well as the Christian deathcore comps on Bandcamp. But back to the topic at hand. The band formed in 2006 as a sixpiece, one vocalist, one drummer, one bassist, and three guitarists.… Continued →

5 Christian Metal Bands You May Not Have Heard Of (80's/90's Version)
Today, I am posting a list of Christian Metal bands from the old days that aren’t mentioned very often when talking about Christian metal. Most of them tend to be Nu-metal, ironically, even though the 90’s was the time for Nu-Metal/Rapcore.
5. Oficina G3
Oficina G3 is a Christian prog metal act from the late 80’s. Forming in 1987, the band began as a heavy metal/hard rock band, influenced by Stryper and Petra, but progressed into a Progressive metal/nu-metal/metalcore-ish band. This band was most likely thrown out, due to this period, when the Christian thrash scene had just hit it’s stride, with the Big 4 of the Christian scene: Deliverance, Vengeance Rising, Tourniquet and Believer.… Continued →

Phinehas "Fight Through The Night Ep" Available December 16th
I was browsing iTunes this morning and found a sweet pre-order from the band Phinehas for their upcoming ep “Fight Through The Night” (available December 16th). You can even listen to the samples on iTunes. It appears to be an “acoustic” release with the band backing up Sean’s strong hit worthy voice (if any guy is made for radio, it’s him). One song “Book of Names” features Garrett Russell of Silent Planet. This Ep follows the same feel as their 2013 “The Bridge Between” Ep. It appears that this will be an independent release as the label says “Phinehas LLC”.… Continued →

The Agony Scene Working on a New EP
Do you remember The Agony Scene? Signed originally with Solid State Records, many people thought of them as a Christian metal band. Which originally they were. They dropped that label and then signed to Century Media and later on Roadrunner. Anyways, the band broke up in 2008, but reunited in 2013. Since 2013, the band played a few shows in 2014 with Living Sacrifice, and Project 86. The band recently has put out a statement stating they are working on a new EP, their first release since Get Damned (what a title) in 2007.… Continued →

REVIEW : To Speak Of Wolves - New Bones EP
It’s been a very quiet handful of years for the North Carolina metal act “To Speak Of Wolves”. After releasing the thunderous “Find Your Worth, Come Home,” they vanished from the music scene with little having to say about it. Four years later, they’ve come back from the dead releasing an EP and a relentless touring schedule.
It’s a worrisome thing coming back after so much time passing. Usually when bands take years off, they return with only a hint of what they once had simply because they lost the sound they used to call their own.… Continued →

Jim Hughes (Colossus, ex-For Today) Releases Parody Video
Jim Hughes of the bands Colossus and For Today released a parody video called “All the Fall Things” in October. The song is a parody of Blink 182’s song “All the Small Things”. The song is a pop-punk parody, rather than the metalcore/deathcore/djent Hughes has been involved with. Hughes also works for Facedown Records.

REVIEW : Memphis May Fire - This Light I Hold
Over the years, the name “Memphis May Fire” has become nearly synonymous with the genre commonly referred to as metalcore. Some love metalcore, some not so much, but regardless of your preference, it’s hard to deny that Memphis May Fire is one of the best the genre has to offer. From the guitars chugging away in dropped tunings, to the breakdowns, to the versatility of Matty Mullins’ vocals, the band offers a variety of things to love, and more recently, a few laid back tunes have even made their way into the band’s catalog, showing off their ability to maintain the listener’s interest with some slower, melodic, catchy material.… Continued →

Selfmindead, Swedish metalcore band, has returned to the scene with what should be known as the classic lineup. I made that up, but it seems to hold true. You can pre-order here, and it will be available for pickup at Brainstorm Festival, and if you order here, the shirts will be shipped out soon.
