This is a big year not only for music, anniversaries, but also Indie Vision Music in general. Yes, my friends, this year is the 20th Anniversary of the website/store/label and everything IVM means to me. I thought of a few different things I could do for the anniversary but due to time constraints and well, this pandemic which has completely changed EVERYTHING about our daily lives, I decided to keep it simple. When listening to music, do you ever get the feeling you’re hearing something deeply personal, and you’re not really sure if you should be listening in? Of course, recorded music is made to be heard. It’s marketed for consumption. But there are some songs that just seem so intimate it’s like you’re accidentally listening to a private conversation. “Days End” from Brandtson’s debut strikes me that way. I was equally excited and perplexed when I first heard about this new band (in the late 90s). Six Feet Deep had been a staple in the Spirit-filled hardcore scene–passionate and preachy as that genre was known for, when the members changed the band name and style, replaced by the new “emo” tag (at the time, anyway).… Continued →

Beloved (US) released this absolutely flawless cover of U2’s classic song, “Like a Song”, last month. It is without a doubt, one of my favorite cover songs by an artist we write about and quite simply one of the best songs of 2020. To be honest, I wasn’t as familiar with this U2 song as much as their other more famous tracks but nonetheless the band put their own unique spin on it and blew it out of the water. It’s not only lyrically poignant but the sound quality of this one song is on par with anything a major label artist would release in 2020.… Continued →

Shane, why must you create such fresh, relevant, heart wrenching new music? This song literally grabs you by the throat and well, releases a flood of all the best emotions. In reality, this song does anything but “Choke” you but it does grip you with a collection of notes and music performed by a talented ensemble of well seasoned musicians. I have always loved Shane’s voice and work in music since the very first few “Demos” he sent me in his first band – Hands, all those years ago.… Continued →

In what seems to be a surprise announcement, Wolves At The Gate just let all their fans know that they are releasing an EP titled “DAWN” that will be released on October 8th through Solid State Records. It appears to be a remix release with possible new versions of some of their classics? Anyone have more info? They are a post-hardcore/emo/indie rock band that really amplify the “rock” element and are here to present some super cool music (that will blow your mind, significantly). The band features some members who have played in bands like Dead To Fall, Eso-Charis, Living Sacrifice, Lovedrug, Norma Jean, NTVTY, SPACESHIPS, Subsist, and Unwed Sailor. Thanks to a friend of mine, I have found a new band that I am instantly drawn to. You all need to check out the band The August Guns from Des Moines, IA. The band released a really cool 5 song EP titled “Born Into Noise” last year that I am almost positive slipped under most people’s radars. The band mixes up punk rock with post hardcore elements, alongside a certain Truth, a spiritual truth and a hope that binds it all together. Beloved (US) are not taking a back seat to this whole 2020 fiasco of a year. They have recorded a cover of a U2 song and I assume will release it any day now. Watch the teaser clip below. This band hasn’t lost one ounce of energy since their long hiatus and the energy is even more ferocious and on fire than it was in the past. Grandpa Loves Rhinos are about to drop another new song from their upcoming album and you can watch the teaser clip below. The song is called “Fostering Patience for Patients” and is a deeply personal song about foster care. It also features the talents of Andrew Alojipan of Kept On Hold doing some mighty fine background vocals. Two special things are happening next month, the 20th anniversary of Indie Vision Music and the 20th anniversary re-release of the debut EP from my pals in Names Without Numbers! This 20th anniversary edition re-release features re-imagined artwork, and a remastered version of all 5 songs found on the EP. Available digitally and possibly on Vinyl. It is a beautiful snapshot of a particular time in music history. The song “Silent Streets” appears on the 2nd official (or 3rd if you’re keeping count) album from this punk/hardcore band out of Canada called “Every New Day“. It appeared on the album, “Even In The Darkest Places”. This song was unlike most I’d heard in the genre around that time period. END pieced together hardcore, punk rock, and hard rock to create an explosive mix. Bareheart which is the solo project of Ethan Tyler Collins of the band, Least of These, will drop his EP titled “In The Mo(u)rning” tomorrow. 16 years ago Indie Vision Music released a little known EP by a little known emo/indie rock band from Kauai, Hawaii known as “Pennylane”. So much has changed in the years since both professionally, musically, industry, and personally, that those years seem like such a blur. I just remember a friend passing this self released EP to me at one of my Chain Reaction shows that the band released on their own and loving every second of it.
