The much loved, critically acclaimed, and all around cherished indie rock legends, Starflyer 59, will return with their brand new record “Lust For Gold” on August 16th 2024 via Velvet Blue Music. CHPTRS return with yet another beautiful song that defies all comparisons, similarities, and definition. This group continues to pump out quality music in the realm of experimental, indie, pop, post rock kinda stuff but like I said above, defies definition. It’s so great to have Gary Murray and co. back to making music again after almost a decade of quietude. Gary had to retreat for a few years beginning in 2014 while taking care of aging parents and other personal matters. Monkeys & Spoons certainly reflects that solitude, as well as the grief of losing someone you’ve had close. While the album cover nearly depicts contents of jazz fusion or post-rock (both Koinonia and strangely, Talk Talk are evoked by the artwork), don’t be led astray there.… Continued →

I haven’t yet featured any post-rock on the Song of the Day series, so it’s time to remedy that. Circle of Birds was a one-off collaboration between members of Ester Drang, Unwed Sailor and Lasso. The vast ensemble (encompassing nine members!) allowed for a true spirit of improvisation. The resulting 3-song EP is entirely instrumental, but it’s a very satisfying listen. The indie/shoegaze band has garnered much interest here in the states by way of Finland/Germany where the members reside. Instrumental indie rock super group Unwed Sailor has released a new video to accompany their single “Camino Reel.” The song comes from their soon-to-be-released album Look Alive, and their recent material finds them rocking out a little bit more than in the past. But don’t, worry those layered melodies are still present!
