I first heard Nobody Special in 1989. My local contemporary Christian music radio station (KOKF 91.1 FM out of Oklahoma City) played their new album in its entirety over the airwaves. You see, KOKF was not your average CCM station. Sure, they played some adult contemporary and “inspirational” stuff during the daytime, but as the late afternoon and evening hit, they would feature more contemporary styles including pop, rap, rock, etc. And then after 9:00, it was all heavy music–mostly metal, but with some punk and hardcore thrown in from time to time.… Continued →

Protect Your Heart is a new pop-punk band from the great state of California. The band features Matt Mcdonald on lead vocals (formerly of the bands Ashcroft and Beta State). Protect Your Heart has a really big sound and that warm, sunny, beach fueled California breeze runs rampant through their veins. Too Bad Eugene are officially back. After successfully funding their new album campaign they’ve already finished their first new single and music since 2002. The track is titled “Non Grata” and it’s an upbeat, total raging, melodic punk rock powerhouse of a song much like their past material on “At Any Rate” and “Moonlighting” but kicked up a notch and with incredible sound production. This is the best you’ve heard from them yet and a proper reintroduction into today’s modern punk scene. A small, independent punk rock band from the late 90’s/early 00’s called “Namesake” that you may have blinked and missed, are back with a special “Demos & Legacy Recordings” release through digital networks. The release features their long lost music including that song “Michigan Avenue” that appeared on “I’m Your Biggest Fan Vol. 2” that I put together years ago for Tooth & Nail and lies dormant in the dusty bins of yesteryear. Sexy Baby Records and the band, Huntingtons, are bringing the classic 1999 album – “Get Lost”, to vinyl and tape once again. The Ramones-esque album was an instant classic and further cemented their place in our hearts, minds, and music players back in the day. Today’s Song of the Day post (by me, Brandon) is none other than Value Pac, a short lived and mostly “90’s” exclusive, pop-punk act. The band got their humble beginnings in 1995 here in Orange County, CA. I first heard of the band with a demo tape under their original name, One by One at a show I went to in Tustin, CA. circa 1995. The band played raw (sometimes rough) pop-punk that would please punk purists and pop fans at heart.
