The OC Supertones "Adventures of The..." Vinyl and My Reflection on That Time

So word on a vinyl pressing of “Adventures of the OC Supertones” by The O.C. Supertones has just dropped and surprisingly, the record is already up for sale in the Tooth & Nail Records store. It is shipping NOW! Those sneaky little devils at UnoriginalVinyl ;). I am going to post my thoughts and reflection on that time below this post. If you’re on Instagram/Facebook, I’ll try to get it to share but if not, just come back to our website to read the full write up by me.… Continued →

No Lost Cause Working on New Music

The guys in No Lost Cause are currently working on new music which will be the follow up to their fantastic ska-punk full length that came out 3 years ago, “Take 2”. That album was the perfect combination of punk rock, ska upbeats, hard hitting drumming, and plenty of “horns” to go around. It was just an all around fun record with plenty to please even the most skeptic of skeptics. So get SKAready for some new No Lost Cause coming at you very soon.… Continued →

Five Iron Frenzy Announce Two So Cal Shows in August with Craig's Brother and The Ruffolos

Five Iron Frenzy are adding some exciting “Old School Set” shows around the country celebrating the band’s rich past and fun, sometimes goofy, nature. The band just announced 2 more shows for the old school sets and they are happening right here in Southern California this August. First show is on August 9th at The Observatory in Santa Ana, CA. and the 2nd show is at House Of Blues in San Diego. Both shows will feature Craig’s Brother and The Ruffolos. I’ve got insider news that a few members of Too Bad Eugene will also be playing in the lineup for Craig’s Brother that evening, similar to the CB lineup that played a series of shows in Canada around Red Bridge Fest last year (look it up on YouTube).… Continued →

Song of the Day: The Insyderz - Oh Lord, You're Beautiful

One of the “Big Three” in Christian ska, The Insyderz formed in Detroit, MI in 1995 out of their Salvation Army worship band. Like their counterparts in The O.C. Supertones and Five Iron Frenzy, the band featured a mix of third wave ska, punk rock tempos, and worshipful lyrics. Unlike their counterparts, The Insyderz were the first of the group to release an entire album dedicated to ska-core worship songs. For their second album, the aptly-titled Skalleluia!, the band assembled a setlist of mostly modern praise and worship songs and turned them into ska anthems.… Continued →

The Insyderz are Back in Action

Michigan based Ska-Core legends known around the world as The Insyderz, are back in 2023! The band last released “The Sinner’s Songbook” back in 2012. While no news about “new” music has surfaced I am certainly not against hearing a full band sound on a new track with that hard hitting, classic sound. The band recently played a local show last week which is leading up to their big set at Furnace Fest this year. What’s your favorite Insyderz song and what are you most looking forward to hearing at Furnace Fest?… Continued →

Must Build Jacuzzi Release First New Song in 4 Years!

Must Build Jacuzzi have returned from their long, extended hibernation in the forest where they learned to fish with their weathered hands, hunt with weapons forged in fire, forage for food with nothing but a knife, chop wood with that murderous axe (sorry merch guy), build a shelter out of Lincoln logs, and unfortunately had to eliminate someone from the group just like in Lord of the Flies. While it was a tragic time they had to endure these past 4 years and the fact that they lost a good merch guy in their battles, they have reemerged from the shadows with their sanity in tact.… Continued →

Five Iron Frenzy - When They Find You (Feat. Mike Herrera of MxPx)

In honor of Five Iron Frenzy day, the band drops hard hitting new song – “When They Find You”. The song features backing vocals from Mike Herrera of long running left coast punk act, MxPx. Listening to this song first time through I made up assumptions and drew targets to throw foam darts at in the hopes making my confusion stick somehow. I read through some comments on different social media sites, scratching my head reading some of the responses then instantly connected with the lyrics Reese Roper posted in the comments of the FIF page (Facebook).… Continued →

Must Build a Jacuzzi in Winter to Like, Stay Warm and Stuff

I have it on good authority that they Must Build a Jacuzzi! You know, like an actual ska-core band that doesn’t suck, makes super duper fun tunes, has fun doing what they do and oh yeah….they ARE – MUST BUILD JACUZZI, and they WILL return in 2023 with NEW music. Or so I’m told, or kinda guessed? Go stream the heck out of their old catalog and get ready for some horn bangin’ action! Wait, that came out wrong I think. Five Iron Frenzy - So We Sing (Lyric Video and Watch Out For Angry Grown Ups)

Five Iron Frenzy just dropped their controversial new song with a reference to a donkey. Forgive Reese, he really doesn’t know that he just invited like a ton of grown ups to come chase him down, and maybe their kids too? Yikes! Seriously though, people will be upset (even I have questionable taste) but remember one thing, the more angry you get, the more Reese will write. Please do not give Reese & Co. more reason to write lyrics. End it now. With that little disclaimer said, check out the song below and contribute to their kickstarter if you like that sort of thing right here.… Continued →

You’ve seen the hints, you’ve seen the activity, now head over to kickstarter right here and “save” the campaign so you’ll be the first to take part when it does launch, tomorrow. Seeking "Cover Songs" by Christian Artists for New Playlist on Spotify

I am sending this post out there into the webiverse to gather songs for a new spotify playlist I just created. It is (tentatively) being called “The Best Christian Cover Songs” and is a play off Christians who cover popular (and not so popular) songs. Please list artist name covering a song and song title below this post in the comments section so I can take your suggestions and add them. What you see now on Spotify is just me recalling stuff off the top of my head.… Continued →

Song of the Day: Five Iron Frenzy - World Without End

Ok, yes I know, I am incredibly biased toward the music and sound of Five Iron Frenzy. They are high up on my list of “favorite bands” and I hold their songs close to my heart. I was browsing Instagram this morning and saw a couple of fans cover this song in their own unique way as seen on the FIF page and I had to bust this track out from the dusty bins of my fragile mind. It’s a beautiful song in and of itself.… Continued →

Song Of The Day: The Insyderz - Sinner's Songbook

Today’s song of the day comes in the form of some punk-ska from our friends in Michigan based band – The Insyderz. I was a fan of this band dating back to 1997 when I heard their debut full length, “Motor City Ska”. The band released 3 full lengths, 2 worship/praise albums, and this final (?) full length in 2012. The song that meant the most to me and had me spinning it again was “Sinner’s Songbook”. The track features Joe’s (Yerke) gritty yet melodic, vocal delivery alongside the vocals of Reese Roper (Five Iron Frenzy), and Matt Morginsky (OC Supertones).… Continued →

Tragically the Morginsky family (Matt Morginsky of OC Supertones) has lost their home and all belongings due to a fire. They have lost everything in their Denver, Colorado home. A complete loss. The family is all safe but their belongings are all gone. This is a call to arms to rise up and support this family in need. There is a GoFundMe page that has launched to help them through this difficult situation and you can click here to support. October Light Release "Till The End"

I just have to say it straight off the bat, this is one of the best ska/punk/rock albums I’ve heard in the past few years. There have been a lot of great ones but there is just something entirely unique that makes October Light deserving of such praise. They make tight, rhythmic ska music with stellar production and with clear, upfront vocals as a featured element. I want to thank the band for sending me the song files and you can all find the same release on digital networks now.… Continued →
