Our friends in Craig’s Brother are returning in 2020 with a new full length album, their first since The Insidious Lie, 8 years ago. This will be their 4th Full length record since they began with their first official national release – “Homecoming”, back in 1998. Featuring ex-members of Jeremiah’s Grotto and pre-members of Rookie of the Year, emo band Farewell to Fashion disappeared just as quickly as they sprung up. They released one split EP with Inez called The Price of Fame (highly recommended), and then a full-length. Both were on Future Destination Records (Neutral Agreement, Hotshot Freight Train). “Morning Grey” highlights all that was great about third wave emo–raw, melodic, punkish, and at times sloppy, but always full of emotion. Over the past 2-3 years, I’ve been discovering a bunch of old Christian punk, post-punk, and new wave that I didn’t know existed. One of the best examples is a short-lived band from the south coast of England called Crowd Control. I only know of one track they recorded, which can be found on the excellent “Shots in the Dark” compilation. The album features other UK-based punk, new wave, and ska tracks. “There are Houses” is brilliant. It’s dark, brooding, true post-punk with enough keyboards to keep things interesting.… Continued →

Slick Shoes and Tooth & Nail have announced the re-signing of the band with the label. Along with the signing, it has been announced that a live album called “Broadcasting Live” will be dropping on November 22nd (preorder yours here) as well as a completely new album coming our way in 2020. Huntingtons are back after a long hiatus to deliver us all an album that just might deserve a top spot on every punk rock reviewers “Best of” lists. Could this be possible? Will the Ramones loving homeboys bring us an abundance of joy and laughter in the form of pure PUNK ROCK that us fans will discuss for years to come? Huntingtons were a prolific punk and/or pop-punk band, as most of you will know. For me, you just can’t beat their sophomore album, “Fun and Games.” The title says it all. I don’t suspect many of our readers will be familiar with What of the Night, which is a shame. This Irish & English punk band released only one album in 1979 (yes, you read that right!) making them the earliest Christian punk band (if we don’t include Death, which is a discussion for another time). The LP features post-punk, mod, and garage rock sounds and would be at home next to the likes of The Undertones, The Jam, Buzzcocks and so many others. It’s super rare and hard to come by, but I managed to track down a copy for myself a couple of years ago.… Continued →

Thrice have just announced plans for a 15th anniversary tour in honor of their landmark album, “Vheissu”. Vheissu originally released in 2005 via Island Records that was met with a heavy dose of critical acclaim and a bit of negativity from the rabid early years fan base. For me it was a beautiful, musically rich and engaging, endearing album that has stood the test of time. I still remember hearing the song or two on a Burnout game and being so psyched for the band. Regardless of what you think of their 3 prior full lengths up until 2005, this album really set the pace for what was to come.… Continued →

I usually like to have some Kenny or Dolly playing on the turntable in the background as I start writing a review. It gives me the inspiration I need. NOT, but now that I have your attention I must point out that the opening track to this album comes blazing off the starting line at full speed. It’s a skull crushing track and the epic start of an album that brings back that late 80s hardcore punk vibe, and although I didn’t experience that era live, the videos and stories people tell bring it to life.… Continued →
