In honor of Five Iron Frenzy day, the band drops hard hitting new song – “When They Find You”. The song features backing vocals from Mike Herrera of long running left coast punk act, MxPx. Listening to this song first time through I made up assumptions and drew targets to throw foam darts at in the hopes making my confusion stick somehow. In fact, you’ll be addicted upon that first listen, being drawn into that raw, yet melodic punk rock spirit Nate Parrish is keeping alive through his passions and talent. Ripped Up are a new up and coming Christian punk band out of Fort Worth, Texas. FFO: Anti-World System, The MOPIC, and Luther's Hammer

There are rumblings in the Ghoti Hook camp that could spell something new from the band which would be their first “official” reunion of the band members since 2002. Another awesome blast from the past punk rock band called – Shorthanded, have returned and will grace our ears with their musical presence very soon. The band have been recording new stuff at The Blasting Room in Colorado and the songs will be available in the coming months. Members of Crux and Shorthanded intermingled back in the 1990s and each did their own thing with great love and admiration. Craig’s Brother released their fantastic new album titled “Easily Won, Rarely Deserved” just last week and it is already reaching countless numbers of punk rock fans the world over and garnering very favorable reviews. Heavy, old school hardcore punk band named Dispraised are back with a double album release on one 12″ Vinyl Records through new label upstart – Coleiosis Records. This heavy hitting band has had a couple songs land on the billboard Christian Radio charts during the past year or so and it’s amazing to see them grow. Craig’s Brother release yet another new song off their upcoming album which drops November 11th. The song is titled “Rodeo Clown” and is a passionate ballad of sorts, similar to a couple tracks off the classic album “Lost at Sea” and “The Aaronic Blessing (Peace on Earth)” from The Insidious Lie. I’m not surprised there was Christian punk and new wave already being made in the 1970s. Contrary to popular belief, believers have always found new and innovative ways to express their faith creatively. It’s the broader public of the faith community that is often slow to accept change, not the artists themselves. This is why I am, in fact, surprised that a Christian record label was publishing Christian punk in the 1970s. It seemed the church in the UK was more open to avant garde presentations of the Gospel than in the US.… Continued →

California based melodic punk act known as Too Bad Eugene, have just released their epic 3rd full length album via the label People of Punk Rock Records and I feel it’s their best so far. The band draws upon past influences, mixes it up with some modern takes and superb production style then delivers the goods the only way they’d know how to. All those group vocal harmonies and mass sing-a-longs are without a doubt sweet music to my ears. The 13 tracks run the gamut between a sense of discontentment and imbalance while looking toward hope and finding the strength enough to keep the fire lit and ultimately carrying on.… Continued →

Craig’s Brother just released one of their strongest songs since “Follow Your Heart”. This one is my favorite of the new stuff alongside Terrible Slave of course. It has that classic CB feel and adds a certain metallic guitar moment (even a solo), mid-way through the song. The music just flows so well and lyrically is as sharp as ever. Like their (mostly) unreleased song “Crutch”, there is a slight curse word which might turn off the grandparents, but it is fairly mild, just some excrement tossed around 😉 Check out “Superhero” below.… Continued →

With regard to the news of today that is surely causing friend to turn against friend, family members against each other, man against man, woman against woman, and the general disregard for one’s truth, with precious life taking a back seat, I thought I’d share a song that fits today’s message. This song is called “In The Line of Fire” and it appears on Dogwood’s 2nd full length record, “Through Thick and Thin” (1997). It’s a great song and the sentiment still rings true. Y’all better to get ready to put your boxing gloves on. You ready for this? Pokinatcha is the best MxPx (Magnified Plaid) album. Why? It was melodic, but still very much punk–bordering even on old school hardcore at times. It’s by far their most unique record, before they settled into the more polished pop-punk sound that everyone remembers. To be clear, I have no problem with the direction they later took (except for maybe moving further away from Christian spirituality and theology as the years went by, but that’s another post altogether).… Continued →
