REVIEW : Propaganda - Crooked

Let me start off by admitting that I wasn’t exactly looking forward to this album. Now, that’s not to say I didn’t think I’d like it at all, because that’s certainly not the case. First of all, I’d describe myself as someone who enjoys the occasional Propaganda song, but like so many other artists, I simply have difficulty enjoying an entire album. Secondly, I was getting the impression through the song titles and reviews that Crooked was going to be political in its lyrics. As someone who only has a minor interest in politics, and some general disdain for the discussions and attitudes that seem to directly stem from political topics/activities, I was worried that some of the lyrics here might add to my frustration.… Continued →

Stemson Weird World

Stemson "Weird World" Preview Stream

Stemson is an electronic/rap/experimental project out of Albuquerque, NM. The new album, Weird World, is slated for release on 6/24, but you can check out three songs below in preparation for the release. Here’s an official press statement: Weird World is the second full-length album from Stemson, combining a mix of tight/catchy synth lines/driving rhythms while being carried by vocals that are both dry/honest and loud/sarcastic.  Weird world visits elements of the 80’s/90’s/00’s and modern pop while maintaining a life of its own. The album is currently available for pre-order to the public (stemson.bandcamp.com).Continued →

Introducing: Ben Knight

After years of touring in the pop punk band Ace High and the hard rock band Noiseunion Ben Knight decided he wanted dive head first into the world of Nerdcore. While he takes the production, music and genre seriously, the lyrical content is that of an artist who is trying to bring some levity to the world of Hip Hop. After releasing two singles late last year he’s back with his new EP “I Don’t Wanna Be A gryffindor”. If you love artists like KJ-52, MC Lars, MC Chris, Mega Ran, Optimus Rhyme and MC Frontalot, then you should give his stuff a listen.… Continued →

Manafest and Famous Last Words announce new Tour

The hard rock rapper Manafest and the post-hardcore/metalcore band Famous Last Words have announced they are going on a East Coast tour together. The two are very different style wise: Manafest started as just a rapper, with a nu-metal tinge, and seems to be returning to his roots with his new single “Stones”. Famous Last Words on the other hand, are a post-hardcore/metalcore band that sounds like Blessthefall in a sense. Anyways this will be an interesting tour one way or another.

Lil' Dre Posts 4 Tracks Ahead of "Live Free" Release

We’re hard at work on our review of Lil’ Dre’s upcoming album Live Free, but you can already check out four of the tracks from this landmark album through Dre’s Soundcloud page. Live Free is chock-full of powerful tracks, but this sample does include a few of my personal favorites (as you’ll read about in the upcoming review), like “Scottie Pippen,” and “P.O.V.” Live Free will drop next week, but while you’re on Dre’s soundcloud, you can also stream his previous effort Homework, which we gave a 5/5, especially noting how “Dissertation” may be one of the most honest and powerful songs out there.… Continued →

REVIEW : Theory Hazit - IT'S WHATEVER

A member of the mighty Scribbling Idiots crew, Theory Hazit has an impressive discography to his name. He’s the artist behind underground classics like Extra Credit, Thr3e (produced by DertBeats), and Fall of the Light Bearer. If you’re familiar with his work, you already know he’s an incredible emcee. But sometimes words don’t suffice and you just have to let the music speak for itself; this is what he does on his first beat tape of 2017. In usual beat tape fashion, there are a lot of tracks to choose from.… Continued →
