When Happy Christmas Vol. 1 hit my ears, I was pleasantly and delightfully impressed. It had some of my favorite bands at the time doing their best versions of Christmas classics. One of those songs was “You Gotta Get Up” by Five Iron Frenzy which was originally composed by Rich Mullins (RIP). The song is a playful tune with a bouncy rhythm and plenty of holiday cheer, perfect for the Christmas season. I was an on/off Fallstar fan in the past probably due to my tastes at the time but this new song completely changes my entire outlook on the band and their job as musicians. I’ll just come out and say it, “Deathbed” is quite possibly the best “Christian” song that has been written in the past 15 years. That is quite a statement to make and I’ll tell you why. First of all, bands who can create an 11 minute “epic” song with constant peaks and valleys all the while captivating the listener with a heavy dose of heart tugging melodrama, you know they are doing it right. I don’t know what it is and maybe that’s just me being a sentimental, sappy fool, but when I give this track a listen, I am left with a tear(s) streaming down my cheek.… Continued →

Cast the Dragon has released their latest album, “Annihilate the Adversary” on Thumper Punk Records on Sept 18. The album makes for a great listen, full of energy and a message of hope. Last month, Skillet re-released their most recent album, “Victorious” and dubbed it “Victorious: The Aftermath” (get yours HERE). The re-release features 3 new tracks and reimagined/remixed versions of previously existing tracks. One of the new tracks, “Dead Man Walking” was just given the lyric video treatment. Shane, why must you create such fresh, relevant, heart wrenching new music? This song literally grabs you by the throat and well, releases a flood of all the best emotions. In reality, this song does anything but “Choke” you but it does grip you with a collection of notes and music performed by a talented ensemble of well seasoned musicians. Deep Valleys is a band from Buffalo, NY that formed in 2016. Since then, the band has released an ep titled “The Call Of The Void” in Sept 2017, as well as a full album titled, “Goldhaven” that dropped in August of 2019. The newest single, “Beyond The Waves” was released last week and is a pretty great song. The band’s style reminds me of a mix of Thrice and Anberlin.
