Song of the Day: Focal Point - Neglected

Legendary hardcore band Focal Point, from Northern California, is well-known not so much for the music they created (tragically), but for the groups that had their origin in the quintet. Training for Utopia, Demon Hunter, Nyves, and Low and Behold all trace their origins back to Focal Point at least in part. As important as those connections are, it’s a shame that too few actually remember the music of Focal Point, as it’s probably my favorite of all the aforementioned. They arrived on the scene late in the “new school hardcore” movement of the early 90s as hardcore was becomingly increasingly more metallic, and yet hadn’t fully shifted into metalcore, which would happen a year or two after Suffering of the Masses dropped.… Continued →

REVIEW : Demon Hunter - Peace

So, it’s been a couple weeks since Zac reviewed Demon Hunter’s “War” album. If you haven’t yet given it a read, you can find it HERE. Go check it out, I’ll wait. Caught up? Good. Now that we’re all on the same page, it’s my turn. Let’s talk about the other album the band released on the same date (yes, a double release), “Peace”. When it came down to reviewing one of the new Demon Hunter albums, I’m not gonna lie, I was a little disappointed to find I’d be reviewing “Peace” rather than “War”.… Continued →

Demon Hunter - Half As Dead

Demon Hunter, metalcore act, has released yet another single from their upcoming album, Outlive, called “Half As Dead”. The band started in 2000 as a project of Ryan and Don Clark’s (ex-Training for Utopia). Over the years, the lineup has solidified as Ryan (Vocals), Jon Dunn (Bass), Patrick Judge (Guitar), Jeremiah Scott (Guitar), and Timothy “Yogi” Watts (Drums). The album is due out on March 31. The new track is called “Half As Dead”. Like all the songs I’ve heard from the new album, it’s heavy, but melodic.… Continued →

NYVES - Fall Behind

Check out a lyric video for the NYVES song “Fall Behind”, below. Their debut full length “Anxiety” will be out this coming Tuesday via Spartan Records. The subdued electronic soundscape is the perfect soundtrack for any film, rainy day mood, and life event. Ryan Clark and Randy Torres know how to clothe you in a moody, electronic wrap cloaked in mystery and uniqueness. I can honestly say there are hardly any other “bands” with this sound in the little music scene we frequent. While this is certainly no rock oriented Demon Hunter or Project 86, you can still expect greatness in the music and be entranced by the delivery.… Continued →
