Best of 2023: Rob Jensen

1. Lacey Sturm – Kenotic Metanoia: This November Lacey Sturm released her first album in nearly 8 years. To say it was worth the wait is an understatement. If it’s going to take 8 years to release a new album, this is the caliber release you want to shoot for. Lacey sounds as good as ever and has dropped an exceptional album here. It easily outshines her previous release, Life Screams, and is, in my opinion, her best work to date, including her material with Flyleaf.… Continued →

New Skillet Video "Psycho In My Head"

Skillet recently dropped a new video for their track “Psycho In My Head”, off the deluxe edition of their most recent release “Dominion: Day Of Destiny”. The track is certainly more reminiscent of some of the bands older material and both the video and the music here are well worth checking out.… Continued →

Song of the Day: Ledger - Into My Arms

In case y’all didn’t know, Jennifer Carole Ledger is the English  girl drumming for longtime band Skillet who became a US citizen in 2021. She has a very distinct voice & released an EP a few yeas back. I have always thought this is her best song as it showcases her vocal range & has some very encouraging lyrics as seen below. When did the scars over your heart Become your hiding place When did the stars become so dark You couldn’t find your way The light inside your eyes Is fading out But I’m not gonna Give up on ya now Don’t be afraid I know you think You’re on your own But you’ll be okay You don’t have to Go through it alone Fall into My arms Fall into My arms So let me see the hurt underneath I’m not a stranger to pain ‘Cause I believe in what you can be I’ll never turn away

Skillet - Surviving The Game (Brand New Song and Music Video)

Skillet, have just released their brand new song titled “Surviving The Game” and there is a music video to accompany the track (check it out below). This song continues in that same current Skillet sound tradition and their sound is complimented by high end production as well as musicianship. I really think Jen’s background vocals give this track an extra layer of oomf that further compliments their already classic, rock sound. If you dig the more recent Skillet music, you’re going to absolutely love this.… Continued →

The Many Adventures of The Joneses and The Jesus Music Film (2021)

Well, we just returned from a wild week at Great Wolf Lodge here locally in So Cal. We spent countless days at the water park and even Knott’s Berry Farm as well as spending precious time with my wife and children. We even had our oldest son Brayden stop by for a bit on last Thursday. Overall, was a great time spent with family and unforgettable memories were had. My wallet still aches but well, what did I expect lol. I have some pics/vids up on my private Instagram so check it.… Continued →

Skillet Drops New Lyric Video, "Dead Man Walking"

Last month, Skillet re-released their most recent album, “Victorious” and dubbed it “Victorious: The Aftermath” (get yours HERE). The re-release features 3 new tracks and reimagined/remixed versions of previously existing tracks. One of the new tracks, “Dead Man Walking” was just given the lyric video treatment. Seems very reminiscent of what you’d hear off the “Rise” album. Check it out below and see if you agree.… Continued →

John Cooper (Skillet) Has A Book On The Way, "Awake And Alive To Truth"

John Cooper has written a book that is due out this December called “Awake and Alive to Truth”. John has been on fire on his podcast, “Cooper Stuff” which I highly recommend checking out. From his page, he’s said of the book, “How do you know what’s true when there are so many differing voices telling us what to do? AWAKE & ALIVE TO TRUTH tackles the reigning philosophies of our day and points you to an eternal truth that is unshakeable.” Pre-order HERE.… Continued →

Skillet Debut New Music Video: "Save Me"

Skillet dropped a new music video today for the single, “Save Me”. One of the heavier, grittier tunes off the band’s most recent release, “Victorious”, the video for “Save Me” was recorded while the band was on tour in Los Angeles. About “Save Me,” John Cooper stated, “This song is about the darker side of you that you are afraid to show people. ‘If they only knew how messed up I am, would they still love me?’ This song is about getting honest and asking for help, both spiritually and naturally speaking.… Continued →

Best of 2019: Rob Jensen

2019 had a number of great releases. Check out my favorites below and see what you think. Agree with any of my picks? Give a listen to the ones you are unfamiliar with, you never know, maybe you’ll find something new to listen to!   1.    Slipknot – We Are Not Your Kind. Slipknot returned with their first album in 5 years this past August and based on reactions from fans and critics alike, WANYK has cemented itself as, arguably, one of their best releases to date.… Continued →

Review: Skillet at House of Blues Orlando, 10/25/19

It’s late October and I’m walking through Disney Springs in Orlando, FL to the House of Blues for the Victorious War tour featuring Alter Bridge and Skillet. It’s the second of two nights the tour is here and the last night of the tour altogether. I make my way through a shoulder to shoulder crowd trying to find anywhere I can stand and have a decent view without ruining someone else’s. Being 6’4” I ruin the view of most people I stand in front of. Crazy enough, there’s a spot I find that’s almost as if it was just waiting for me; back of the room (so I’m not directly in front of anyone), yet only 30 or so feet from the stage.… Continued →

REVIEW : Skillet - Victorious

I got my first taste of Skillet in the early 2000’s just after I came to know the Lord. I was drawn to their raw, gritty, heavy sound because, musically, I heard some similarities to Marilyn Manson, a band I’d been a tremendous fan of in my B.C. days. As the years went by, as is to be expected, the band’s sound changed a bit, mellowing here and there, adding string sections, adding electronic sounds (or at least making them a bit more prominent), having a much more produced sound, songs that are more radio friendly…the list goes on.… Continued →

Skillet Releases Music Video for "Legendary"

Skillet has release a music video for their single, “Legendary”, which will appear on the band’s upcoming release, “Victorious”, which is set to release August 2nd on Atlantic Records. This particular song is a very good representation of what you can expect from the new album with some tracks heavier, some as heavy, and others mellower. You take the average of all of the varied intensities/styles and you’d get this particular song. I’ll be posting a review on this album in the near future, so stay tuned for that, but after having heard it, I’m really looking forward to picking it up.… Continued →

New Ledger Song - "Completely"

Last year, Jen Ledger (drummer for Skillet) released her debut solo EP, “Ledger” (see my review HERE). At that time, she really seemed to be right on the fence of electronic/pop and rock. Just yesterday, she released a new song titled “Completely” and to me, this one sounds like she’s really moved over to the CCM/poppy side of things. It’s a beautiful, worshipful (is that a word?) tune, celebrating the love of God. Check out the song below and you can also see the story behind it HERE.… Continued →

REVIEW : Review: Fight the Fury - Still Breathing

Before I came to a place of faith in my life, I was really, REALLY into Marilyn Manson. Odd way to start this review? Maybe, but stick with me. When I finally did come to faith in Christ, I guess I really had little idea of the concept of Christian music and what it could sound like. Imagine my surprise then, to find a band like Skillet, who, at the time, bore a striking resemblance to Manson. Don’t believe me? Check out the album “Alien Youth”, especially the track “Rippin Me Off”.… Continued →

REVIEW : Ledger - Ledger EP

When it was announced that Jen Ledger would be releasing her debut solo ep, it filled many with a sense of excitement, rivaled only by an insatiable curiosity as to what we could expect from it. Would it be hard rock, similar in nature to her band Skillet? Pop? Electronic? Rock? The answer is yes…yes, it is. The Ledger EP, which drops this Friday, is a fairly diverse offering that has a little something for everyone. A common thread throughout the EP, is a distorted synth type sound, though there’s keys and drums that compliment it in all the right places.… Continued →

What Is the Bestselling Christian Album of All Time?

So, what is the bestselling Christian album of all-time? To answer that question we must first set some parameters for just what qualifies as a “Christian” album. Since the question at hand concerns album sales, I suggest we define a Christian album as any album which was marketed to a Christian audience. Therefore, I will consider albums which either charted on Billboard as Christian or featured songs which charted on Christian radio. With that out of the way, what is the bestselling Christian album of all-time?… Continued →

The Best of 2016: Rob Jensen

In 2016, I saw my tastes in music grow a bit more. This would account for why you’ll see some albums make an appearance on this list that, if you know me, you wouldn’t normally expect to see here. Overall, I thought it was a pretty good year for music, but a number of times some of the albums I was most excited about lost something after numerous listen throughs. This could account for why some albums (if you know me) you’d expect to see on my list are noticeably absent.… Continued →

5 Christian Metal Bands You May Not Have Heard Of (80's/90's Version)

Today, I am posting a list of Christian Metal bands from the old days that aren’t mentioned very often when talking about Christian metal. Most of them tend to be Nu-metal, ironically, even though the 90’s was the time for Nu-Metal/Rapcore. 5. Oficina G3 Oficina G3 is a Christian prog metal act from the late 80’s. Forming in 1987, the band began as a heavy metal/hard rock band, influenced by Stryper and Petra, but progressed into a Progressive metal/nu-metal/metalcore-ish band. This band was most likely thrown out, due to this period, when the Christian thrash scene had just hit it’s stride, with the Big 4 of the Christian scene: Deliverance, Vengeance Rising, Tourniquet and Believer.… Continued →
