An absolutely killer new melodic punk rock band has emerged by the name of Humble Kings. The band featuring a former member of Off The Record and they play an upbeat form of punk rock that would appeal to fans of Much The Same, MUTE, Rise Against, Over It, Dogwood, and even Off The Record. Los Angeles, CA. based Chives McAlister, is back with a brand new “Family-Core” pop-punk song titled “Running After You”. Family-Core is not a new genre or sub-genre it’s just a fun loving tag penned by Caleb of Chainstay and Must Build Jacuzzi, placed upon this love song for his wife and kids. Instead of the typical relationship downers and depressing lyric content, Chives’ Erik Williams has created a beautiful tribute to his wife and their children, thus “Family-Core” is born. One of my favorite up and coming record labels called Small Step Records is a community of sorts and a breath of fresh air in a scene of sameness and monotony. The founder Paul Hyde is also a member of the band Grandpa Loves Rhinos which joins Homeplate, Light The Way, and now… Last Chance Marie! They are also another great punk rock band and have a solid sound that isn’t a copy of anyone. Light The Way began in 2016 and started off releasing their fantastic debut ep, “Grace”. They followed that up in the following 3 years with – “Dude, Lame” (EP) in 2017, “False Memory Syndrome” in 2018, and “Dad Gang” (EP) in 2019.
