Song of the Day: Sever Your Ties - Adoration vs Captive

I was given the Safety in the Sea cd recently from this band I have known about for quite some time. Thank you Eli!  Anyways, this article showcases 2 of my fave songs from them. Captive though hits hard with me especially with the following lyrics. We probably all have felt this way at some point, but now we are not alone with our thoughts and struggles as our Heavenly Father is here to help us through!!! So here I am, waiting with my perfect thoughts  But they’re all dead and wrong  This isn’t what I expected  This isn’t what I had in mind, but still I can’t move on  It’s been so long since I felt loved It’s been so long since I cared  This world has nothing to offer  This world is full of despair  I was full of glass  You can see right through  Push me down I’d break  Until I saw you  It’s easy to believe what you want to  When this world holds captive our hearts  There’s something in the way that binds you  It keeps us torn and apart   I can feel what it’s like  My fellas I won’t lie  I can feel, So here I am, I can feel something inside  But it is not my own, it’s not my own  I wish I could see my future, see how everything unfolds  ‘Cause now I’m not alone, I’m not alone

Lightworker - Evergreen (New Song)

Lightworker just dropped another new track that’s hot like the sun and fiery like the depths of…well a bowl of carolina reapers! It’s a really great sounding song with unrelenting passion and melodic singing parts that keep you entertained throughout the length of the track. They really do remind me a little of Howard led Killswitch Engage which is a good thing because Joe Calderon is an insanely talented lead vocalist and screamer. These guys have a bright future with the release of “How The Beautiful Decay” (Out April 19th) and beyond.… Continued →

Lightworker Shows Us All How Heavy and Melodic Can Intertwine With Expertise

Lightworker return with their first new song in several years. The song is titled “First Light” and it’ll be appearing on the band’s new album “How The Beautiful Decay” which is out April 19th on Solid State Records. Imagine a Howard Jones led Killswitch Engage crossing paths with For Today, Phinehas, and Bleeding Through but even more spectacular. This band shows real promise and potential and I can’t wait to hear what album number 2 sounds like. Check out the music video for the song right here at IVM, below.… Continued →

Song of the Day: Seasons in the Field - Eternity

Hailing from the tri-state area of West Virginia/Pennsylvania/Ohio,this metalcore band only released one cassette demo and one split CD with emocore band Pensive. What is interesting about that split–that is, besides being a spectacular release from two very good and rather unique bands–is that both bands featured members that would soon after go on to join the more well-known Zao. Pensive featured Brett Detar and Martin Lunn, as well as other members who joined Detar’s later band The Juliana Theory. Seasons in the Field featured Russ Cogdell on guitar, and future Zao screamer Dan Weyandt.… Continued →

Becoming The Archetype - The Remnant (New Song)

Becoming The Archetype are on a roll. Not only did they just release a music video for the first single “The Lost Colony” but now they have put out single #2 – “The Remnant” through all digital networks and streaming sites. This absolute beast of a new album is shaping up to not only be the band’s best work but quite possibly one of the best METAL albums of 2022 (disclaimer: it’s possible the word ‘best’ could be outweighed by words like ‘insane’, ‘mind blowing’, ‘smashing’, ‘beast mode’, ‘slapping’, ‘award winning’, ‘critically acclaimed’, or an ‘underrated masterpiece’ and we are not responsible for misrepresenting Becoming The Archetype by undercounting the ferocious nature of said “masterpiece”).… Continued →

Wolves At The Gate Drop New Album "Eulogies"

I am playing catch up this morning for all the news I missed the past few days. Please be patient 😉 Wolves At The Gate just dropped an incredibly powerful and deeply moving new album titled “Eulogies”, on Friday. The album is a signal, a beacon of sorts to call upon fans and friends to join in unison, sharing love among the hopeless. It comes at a perfect time for our broken and very much, hurting world. We are broken, we are wounded, and while it might seem like some of us are out of “hope”, there is an answer and a truth for our brokenness.… Continued →

Song of the Day: Few Left Standing - Wishing You

Few Left Standing was a spirit filled late 90s hxc band from Tennessee. Their stuff was primarily released by Takehold Records which actually housed Underoath in their early days (my fave from the band). The band reformed & played a show recently at Furnace Fest. This SOTD always reminded me of another song by Zao called A Fall Farewell as the lyrics relate to wishing a friend would find Jesus. I also put some of the footage from the Furnace Fest show for your enjoyment. A moment whispered A fleeting thought A lifetime lived In one short breath I sit alone in a quiet place Remembering a smile A smile that in one instant Drowns out the sorrows of the world A smile from the face of innocence I sit and watch As the seasons change Falling like dying leaves I sit and watch as the cold hands Choke at my existence You’re not the only one You’re hurting You stare expressionless As our worlds are torn apart I reach for your hand Why don’t you reach back?… Continued →

Song of the Day: Wolves at the Gate - Asleep

Wolves at the Gate-where do I begin! This is the epitome of what one would call melodic metalcore. I have had the joy of seeing them live once & hanging with the main vocalist. Chase Tremaine has a decent cover if you want to check it out also. Some of their songs have found their way onto mainstream radio along with Skillet & of course Underoath. Their new release Eulogies is gearing up for release in a few days on  March 11.

Song of the Day: Blindside - Nerve

I remember when I first heard this song. It was on the Tooth & Nail Songs from the Penalty Box compilation, amidst other songs ranging from pop-punk to hardcore and everything in-between. But Blindside was hard to peg. It was heavy and raw, and kind of hardcore, but not really. There was a mild rap influence in the delivery, but it wasn’t really rapcore either. Post-hardcore hadn’t really occurred to me as a category yet. The band put the song on their debut, self-titled, full-length album and a year later released a second–both albums on Tooth & Nail/Solid State.… Continued →

Song of the Day: Luti-Kriss - Patiently Philadelphia

Luti-Kriss is the first incarnation of Norma Jean, a metalcore band that I think I have seen more than any other artist live. This band is what first got me into Christian heavy music for their open profession of Jesus. The vocalist (Josh Scoggins) at the time eventually went on to start The Chariot, which was another great band to see live, & ’68. They were on tour with Living Sacrifice & Dead Poetic if my memory serves me correctly at the time & Josh was hanging from the rafters from the venue.… Continued →

Song of the Day: The Agony Scene - We Bury Our Dead At Dawn

The Agony Scene is friggin’ heavy. I remember it seemd this band & AILD came out at roughly the same time. I loved this debut & not As IU Lay Dying better as the song quality was tons better. Plus I was into the goth & metal scene & fishnets &  eyeliner & Hot Topic & all that. Crowd surfed at Norma Jean shows & hung out with Zao & Stretch Armstrong at New Brookland Tavern in Columbia, SC. Well this song is a killer tune, but also check out the debut as there isn’t a dud on it.… Continued →

Phinehas Provide a Little Metal Relief From Reality

Getting your mind off world events, Covid and all variant insanity, the heat of summer, well then might I suggest some guitar heavy music from Phinehas to drown out the noise? Phinehas, a band I’ve been a fan of since right before they joined their first record label like 15 years ago, are back in an absolutely incredible manner. Their brand of metal(core) has been missed and this new song “In The Night” is certainly no exception to their greatness. The band’s new album “The Fire Itself” is out August 27th on Solid State Records and you can pre-order here.… Continued →
