REVIEW : Wolves At The Gate - Types & Shadows

Solid State Records has enjoyed quite the stellar year with releases from Silent Planet, Forevermore, Norma Jean, and Fit For A King. Now Wolves At The Gate are closing out the year with Types & Shadows, and it’s a fitting record to finish such a monumental year for the the label. They’re back with their third record on Solid State, and they mean business. Types & Shadows summed up in a word would be “dense”. Its thirteen tracks have a runtime over fifty-four minutes, the barrage of high-gain rock’n’roll rarely lets up, and Stephen Cobucci’s weighty lyrics occupy the majority of the songs.… Continued →

5 Up and Coming Christian Metal Bands

Today, I’m doing something a little different. These bands are bands that people should know and that are on the rise. Check them out! And here you go! 5. Saints Can Lie Metalcore acts have become very common in the United States. But Saints Can Lie seem to be doing something sort of fresh. The band formed in 2012 with the original lineup of brothers Vocalist Jake and Guitarist/Pianist Hunter Shaw, Guitarist John McDonough and Drummer Bryce Garland. The band comes from Texas, home to many amazing metal bands including Pantera and The Famine.… Continued →

5 Christian Metal Bands You May Not Have Heard Of (2000's Version)

Here’s another one of those lists I’ve been working on. Primarily, the reoccurring genre this time ’round are in the ‘core genre. Hope you enjoy! 5. A Thousand Times Repent Deathcore, as of late, has been extremely popular, especially with the last 4-5 years. If you want some good Christian deathcore, go listen to A Thousand Times Repent, as well as the Christian deathcore comps on Bandcamp. But back to the topic at hand. The band formed in 2006 as a sixpiece, one vocalist, one drummer, one bassist, and three guitarists.… Continued →

The Ongoing Concept Loses 3/4 Lineup(?)

Recently, I discovered The Ongoing Concept. Ok, well I had heard of them before, just was never interested. I downloaded the Son of Screamfest 2016 compilation and heard “Prisoner”. I followed up with listening to “Cover Girl”, “Failures and Fakes” and “Saloon”. I did a little more research, and discovered something. It seems that Brothers Kyle and Parker Scholz and friend TJ Nicholz seem to have left the band. Leaving Dawson Scholz, the remaining brother, the main member. There was no mention of the members departure at all, but there were several pictures with another lineup.… Continued →

The Agony Scene Working on a New EP

Do you remember The Agony Scene? Signed originally with Solid State Records, many people thought of them as a Christian metal band. Which originally they were. They dropped that label and then signed to Century Media and later on Roadrunner. Anyways, the band broke up in 2008, but reunited in 2013. Since 2013, the band played a few shows in 2014 with Living Sacrifice, and Project 86. The band recently has put out a statement stating they are working on a new EP, their first release since Get Damned (what a title) in 2007.… Continued →

Demon Hunter has announced that they are going to release their 8th full-length album, Outlive, in March 2017. The band formed in 2000 with brothers Ryan and Don Clark and Jesse Sprinkle on drums. The band then added on Jon Dunn and Kris McCaddon (ex-Embodyment, ex-The Famine) and the band progressed from there. REVIEW : Norma Jean - Polar Similar

The Almighty Norma Jean simply cannot be stopped. The storied band just released their seventh record, and it’s their best yet. They’ve reunited with Solid State records, their production has never sounded better, and despite having been around over fifteen years, Polar Similar proves they haven’t lost any steam. Norma Jean has been an anomaly for quite a few years. Meridional and Wrongdoers showed the group continuing to stretch themselves to top each previous studio effort. They’ve been on an upward streak since 2010, and I was curious whether they could continue the trend with Polar Similar.… Continued →

Handmade Album Cover

REVIEW : The Ongoing Concept - Handmade

The Ongoing Concept have delivered another unique, high energy album. The logical continuation in style after “Saloon”, “Handmade” features a more reigned in style with songs that work in conjunction and don’t feel like a greatest hits album.

REVIEW : Silent Planet - The Night God Slept

Silent Planet is a band that has been making some serious waves over the last several years. The group has shown extreme potential with their eclectic blend of artistry which merges the beauty and ambiance of mewithoutYou and the thick tone and riffing of Oh, Sleeper.

REVIEW : Fit For A King - Slave to Nothing

The band have recently released “Slave to Nothing”, the successor to record breaking “Creation/Destruction”. Can this album gain the band even more popularity, or will it kill all the momentum the band worked their tails off to gain?

REVIEW : Forevermore - Telos

While not breaking any new ground in the genre, Forevermore create a perfect blend of progressive metal that is equal parts technical and easy to listen to.
