I’d like to take a moment to introduce a new band on the streets called “Bloodguilt“. They are somewhat of a Hardcore supergroup featuring members of Taken, Project 86, Starflyer 59, Inner Means, Focused, Stavesacre, Crucified, and more. Bloodguilt are currently working on their debut songs and will reveal them all shortly. For now, follow them on instagram here: bloodguilt_hc (you can hear a teaser at that link).… Continued →

New Vinyl Pressings of a Bunch of Classics Courtesy of UnoriginalVinyl
The fine folks at UnoriginalVinyl have been feverishly at work on several classic albums that’ll get the vinyl treatment in next few months. For now, the first 4 announced are Stavesacre “Friction”, Showbread “Age of Reptiles”, “Songs From The Penalty Box Vol. 1”, and Training For Utopia “Throwing A Wrench Into The American Music Machine”. As with all their releases, special care went into the creation of these and I’m sure there will be tons of extra goodies from the unique art to the write ups inside.… Continued →

The Lost Chorus Release New Song "The Ballad of 54"
This low key, somber indie rock dream sequence of a song titled “The Ballad of 54” by the band The Lost Chorus just dropped on digital networks and it’s an absolute winner. It’s unlike most stuff out there. The cool thing is that this supergroup of sorts features collaborations between Andy Zipf and members of Stavesacre and Project 86. It almost takes on this movie soundtrack vibe with haunting vocals and melodies that have this dark feel of sorts. It’s good stuff and definitely worthy of listen after listen.… Continued →

Stavesacre in the Studio
After browsing social media for a very important rock band that our scene has been blessed with, a legacy artist if you will, Stavesacre will return soon with new music (I hope). I think the band posting in studio pics is enough confirmation of new music, right? What is your favorite Stavesacre album/ep? SO MANY GOOD SONGS…28 years later… Continued →

Song of the Day: Enemy Ships - Rock American Style
Welcome to the best band you’ve never heard of. Enemy Ships (FKA The Emergency, not to be confused with The Emergency, AKA Ten-33) was a sort of supergroup with members from Christian alternative heavyweights like Jason Martin (Starflyer 59, Bon Voyage, Neon Horse, etc.), Dirk Lemmenes (Stavesacre, Focused), Ryan Denne (Stavesacre), Travis Zimmerman (Jupiter James), and Frank Lenz (Fold Zandura, Frank Lenz, etc). The band recorded an album for mainstream Atlantic Records entitled The Emergencyin 2007, but sadly it was never released.
Stylistically the band play rock and roll, but with a punk energy and aesthetic.… Continued →

Song of the Day: scaterd-few - U
I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, Sin Disease is one of the greatest albums ever to emerge from our scene. Romald Domkus (born Allan Aguirre) and company unleashed a wonderfully chaotic debut album, with production from Terry Taylor (DA/Daniel Amos/Swirling Eddies/Lost Dogs) that set CCM on its head!
Think I’m overstating things? Not possible. Here’s why: have you ever tried to pigeonhole the album, or this band, into a single genre? Good luck. Take equal parts hardcore punk, reggae, goth, glam rock, and heavy metal, and then top the whole thing off with a weird experimental noise track lasting over 7 minutes long.… Continued →

Song of the Day: The Crucified - Path to Sorrow
The Crucified is probably the most legendary Christian hardcore band of all time. They only released 2 full-length albums (plus some demos, and later re-issues) before disbanding in the early 90s. However, their influence cannot be overstated. Their blending of hardcore punk and thrash metal into a unique take on crossover thrash touched and influenced bands in genres as diverse punk, alternative, metal, hardcore and even industrial.
Their sophomore effort, The Pillars of Humanity was heavy, fast and bold. And it wasn’t just the music. They lyrics hit hard as well.… Continued →

Song of the Day: Stavesacre - Gold & Silver
I’m starting a new feature here at IVM that’ll focus on a beautiful, important, and defining song for a particular band. Let’s start this feature off right and put the focus on the music of Stavesacre, particularly the song “Gold & Silver”. I remember 20 years ago hearing this album (Speakeasy) which had this almost “ballad” like track named “Gold & Silver” then being struck in the heart heavily by it’s somber melodies, inspired lyrical delivery, and that unmistakable voice of Mark Salomon. This is beyond just a typical ballad you’d hear in a grocery store, shopping mall, etc.… Continued →

The Best of 1997: Favorite Hits From 20 Years Ago
Yep, the list you’ve all been waiting for (not really) is finally here. Feel free to offer up some laughs and critical remarks for the music I listened to the most 20 years ago. You’ll notice a heavy T&N presence and I just couldn’t help myself. There were a lot of albums and releases I found myself spinning back then and still getting plays today. I think that’s where this list falls in place, it’s the albums that had the longest lasting impact with me and had a catchy sound that I just couldn’t get enough of.… Continued →

Vocals to Begin Tracking on Friday for Next Stavesacre Record
Vocal tracking for the new Stavesacre record will begin tracking this Friday. This comeback record should definitely attract new fans and old fans alike, that’s my hope. It’s been over 10 years since the last full length and 8 years since any new recorded music has come from these seasoned veterans of rock music. My anticipation and expectations are high but I have a feeling this will be the record everyone is talking about come end of year.

Today’s Video Flashback is actually a double dose and comes in the form of two song froms Stavesacre. The song/video for “An Eclipsing” appeared on the band’s second album for Tooth & Nail titled “Absolutes” (1997). The second song/video is “It’s Beautiful Once You’re Out Here” off the 2006 release “How to Live With a Curse” (Abacus/Century Media). There is almost a 10 year break between these two videos so I thought i’d give you a double shot of awesome.
