Another introduction for today is the music of Carly Ann Taylor. Carly is a young singer songwriter from Southern California with a bright and happy, soulful sound. CHPTRS return with yet another beautiful song that defies all comparisons, similarities, and definition. This group continues to pump out quality music in the realm of experimental, indie, pop, post rock kinda stuff but like I said above, defies definition. I stumbled across this band the other day and had to give their latest EP a listen. This Surrender are described as an Easycore band out of Brooklyn, NY. but I would add in worshipful lyrics and a message of hope built on love. This folk-punk band was formed as a sort of atypical worship band. Their purpose was to create “authentic church music devoid of hype.” Hailing from Pittsburgh, the band features members of Last Hope and Timbre, its roots firmly embedded in the punk scene. Their one and only album was self-released in 2010, but saw a digital re-release in 2019 via Zap Records (home of 2 Minute Minor, Voice of the Mysterons, October Bird of Death, and others). This band formed from a church worship band. They were one of the first modern rock worship bands I think. They had a tight modern rock sound & had songs on Christian edgier radio stations including Ride, Undiscovered. They have since changed their name to The Listening. Gabe Wilson has worked with many musical endeavors over the years also. These lyrics are awesome! This country folk rock band isn’t your normal artist noticed on this site, but they have been a fave of mine for years. I finally got the chance to see them live here recently & I was sad. This was their last tour as a band. They actually started out really small doing some songs for their church from what I gather. Obviously they grew & found their way onto Christian CCM radio. This worship artist is one I interviewed back in college. I had just discovered some recent songs from the album, “Dancing In The Fire” by former Delirious? frontman – Martin Smith a few weeks ago and just had to share. The Festal Shout is a street punk band which reminds me of Flatfoot 56 or Hanover Saints. The annual Harvest (Crusade) event is back and is a one day event taking place October 3rd at the Angel Stadium of Anaheim here in sunny Southern California. The event is FREE like always (additional parking fee by the stadium) and will feature music by For King & Country and Phil Wickham plus a message by Greg Laurie. I stumbled upon this really unique and different sounding “worship” oriented music, hymnal focused group out of Scotland called, “Celtic Worship“. Don’t let the cliché Scottish name fool you, this is uplifting, inspiring, and played with a strong sense of passion, driven by quality musicianship. The vocals are soaring and the instrumentation is out of this world. I received a press release a few weeks back and like with many I just wrote it off as more of the same. DENS released an absolutely stunning reworking of their 2020 full length, “Taming Tongues”, and re-released it as “Tamed Tongues” earlier this year. As you may have guessed, this too would further cement the band’s place among among some of the best bands in the music scene today. “Diverse” doesn’t even begin to tell the whole, complete story. Rising from the ashes of 2 other bands (one of which A Past Unknown has been played on a few Christian radio shows, including Ohio’s RadioU), Iowa’s Then It Ends is a metalcore band that has some great melodic stuff.
